Try going to your Connections Tab in limewire, if it's not showing up go to Veiw > Show/Hide and make sure the connection tab has a tick next to it...
Then click on the Hosts and remove them and let Limewire search for some more...
(try to take note of the hosts IP numbers if the same ones keep re-appearing add them to your host filter...) ;)

Tools > Options > Filters and select the Host Filter and add these IP's into it and select apply...

Try installing PeerGuardian, it will help keep the fake hosts out...Remember to enable PG just before you start limewire up...;)
Phoenix Labs » PeerGuardian 2

If you're using Vista, there's this PG2 Beta available for Vista users.

Another thing if you are using limewire 4.13 and later you can apply this hostile list...This will block known fake IP addresses...

novella7311 this is the Vista section, your best to copy and paste your information and start your own thread in the connection problems section of the forum...Cheers..

Sorry nascarjr88fan I mixed you up with another connection problem...

Try right-clicking the Limewire icon and going to properties and change compatability setting to Windows 2000. (but only if you're using Windows 2000 or later.) Somebody reported changing to Windows NT compatibility fixed their problem despite not using that operating system version.

Right-click on the Limewire icon on the desktop and click on Run as. Then it should come up showing the current user and then switch it over to Administrator. (but 'only' if you're the admin of your comp.!)

nascarjr88fan November 10th, 2007 01:45 PM

that did not work either....this is getting so aggrevating. I did not have any issues until yesterday.

wondering why November 10th, 2007 01:57 PM

Have you tried disabling Norton and seeing if that helps ??

nascarjr88fan November 10th, 2007 02:02 PM

I just turned off the firewall protection in Norton 360 and started LW, but it still is still saying starting connection....

nascarjr88fan November 11th, 2007 12:07 PM

Nothing seems to be working to get this resolved. I thought about uninstalling LW but I am afraid it will mess up the billing. I don't want to be billed again. Does anyone have any suggestions.

wondering why November 12th, 2007 02:54 AM

Try Birdy's advice in this thread...;)
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-fix-try.html

nascarjr88fan November 12th, 2007 11:13 AM

I tried following the instructions that Birdy gave, but that did not work either. All firewalls have been turned off or LW has been allowed. Any other suggestions? The only thing that I have not done has been to uninstall/re-install LW.

birdy November 12th, 2007 01:19 PM

When you deleted the preferences folder, did all of your settings within LW's options change? The first time that you started LW after deleting the prefs, did you have to choose a location for saving downloads?

Try uninstalling LW (start > all programs > limewire > use the uninstall option) then use your comuter's search to look for all files & folders with limewire in the name & delete what you find.
If you've changed your location for saving, make sure that you're not saving downloads to somewhere within LW's files or you'll lose your downloads when you uninstall LW! Also, if your downloads folder has limewire in the name, don't delete that one after a search!!

Once LW's all gone, reinstall & make sure to use the offline installer. When you click to download LW, cancel the dialog box which pops up...now use the option to download the offline installer. Once LW's installed, restart your computer. Then start LW & see how it goes.

nascarjr88fan November 12th, 2007 08:09 PM

Will I need to re-enter my billing info again or will I be billed again due to uninstalling and re-installing LW.

nascarjr88fan November 12th, 2007 08:11 PM

I am not sure if all my setting changed, but after deleting the LW folder I went through the set up and everything was defaulted to what it already had. It did ask me where to save downloads, but it already had the information.

Make sure Vista firewall is turned OFF. Vista's firewall WILL clash with Norton, so go to control panels & make sure it is disabled. If your computer came with McAffee, make sure it is also disabled.

Depends when you bought LW pro. If less than 6 months ago, then go to their site, and enter your email address you used to get pro originally. Lime Wire » Support Alternatively, check your email account to see if you still have the email customer support sent you as it will have the link to your personal download page. Once you get to it, either way, Bookmark that page so you don't need to go thru this to get updates, etc. & be aware of your support nearing an end.

Ensure your Motorola's UPnP is enabled. For suspect some for models it is disabled by default.
Log into your Motorola device. You will hopefully know how to or have instructions about how to do this. Otherwise, there's a few ways depending on their model. Open your browser & type in either 192.168.100.1 _ or _ 192.168.10.1 _ or _ 192.168.1.1 _ or less likely, 192.168.20.1 (one of these numbers should work .. depends on model which one.)
Then a login window should appear. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is admin, and the password is motorola or admin. Click the Log In button to log in to your router.
There are considerable differences between models of Motorola devices firmware so it may be a bit of a hunting process to find the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) section. It may be under Advanced -> Firewalls or just Firewalls, etc. Make sure it is enabled. If not, change it, then save settings & reboot router. I have supplied a couple of examples of 2 models of Motorola in the image below. Click the image to see a larger view.

BTW re: preferences, it sounds like you originally had download setting to default. That's what most people choose. ;) However when you do delete the prefs folder, LW MUST be closed, otherwise it replaces the old one with a copy of it & doesn't set up a fresh one. The fact you got the prompt for setting up options after opening LW means you did you it correctly. :)

nascarjr88fan November 13th, 2007 11:34 AM

I have contacted my internet provider and there are no settings that I need to look into for my modem(Motorla) as I do not have wireless internet to any computer. They do not have firewalls set up and the UPnP is enabled by default. I guess they only I left to try is to do an update even though I already have LW 4.14.10 and that is the latest version. Or I can uninstall/re-install the program, but as I have stated, I do not want to get re-billed for the service I am already paying for.

wondering why November 13th, 2007 11:46 AM

Have you tried this ??
Uninstall all versions of Java from the add/remove programs and then re-install the JRE 5.11 offline version....
Archive: Download Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 11

Also if you are within your 6 months of purchasing limewire you will not loose your Pro and won't be billed again...But if you purchased Pro more that 6 months ago and it was a 6 month membership you will...

I'd suggest backing up your Pro version...Save it to My Doccuments and re-name it Pro 4.14.10, that way if anything goes wrong you will still have your Pro installer to fall back on...

nascarjr88fan November 13th, 2007 12:03 PM

How do you back up LW to the document folder....I am not sure on how to do this.

Lord of the Rings November 13th, 2007 08:42 PM

You won't need to. If you are uninstalling LW, it will only remove the actual program. Start menu > All Programs > LW > Uninstall. Never use the add/remove control panel for LW. Actually, if you reinstall LW, it will remove the previous version at beginning of the installation process.

To uninstall Java, you will need to use the add remove control panel to remove any newer or older versions of Java. Install Java before re-installing LW if you choose to re-install LW.

Also check other options here Fixes for Limewire (click on blue link) as once in a while a change in such settings can also fix connection problems.

When backing up .. do you mean the program or the shared folder? For shared folder, it should be safe on condition you did not make the location either the program folder or the preferences folder.

It might sound strange, but I've heard of some people solving connection issues by installing FrostWire. Then after connecting with it, closing it. Then their LW connected with no problems.

nascarjr88fan November 15th, 2007 11:46 AM

I installed Frostwire and that did not solve anything. In fact Frostwire is doing the same thing. Any other suggestions?
