Default Firewall problems (on some Vista accounts)

Hi, this is probably a stupid question but here goes! I am running windows vista. I have set multiple accounts up for the kids. My limewire is working fine on my account (main account). it is showing that the windows firewall is allowing access to the programme.

Once I change accounts they all show that the firewall is blocking the programme. In the bottom corner of the screen I have that little picture of the world with a wall accross it. I can't seem to find a way to allow the programme to access the internet.

Any ideas anyone?

Many thanks

I've read of others with a similar problem.

Does each user account use a different internal or external ip address? Check external ip address with a site such as What Is My IP Address? - IP Address Lookup, Internet Speed Test, IP Info, plus more from each user account. The reason I am asking is because I presume you are using a router or modem with NAT. Routers are ip based.

If a single user uses a specific program connecting through a particular port of the router, then the router reserves that port for that program & user (ip address.) If other users attempt to connect (or listen) thru the same port then they are blocked out.

I guess you could try using a different connection & listening port for each user. Not sure if that will work, especially since UPnP tends to find ports of its own. But you could try setting to UPnP in LW, and also choose another, under LW's tools > options > advanced > firewalls.

I am also having a firewall problem. I have gone thru the process of assigning a specific port to LW and all that entails, and my computer works fine. But, when I shut down the computer or reboot, when I come back up, the firewall is back. Any ideas why? I'm running Windows Vista on an HP Pavillion. Thanks in advance for any advice and tips!

edit: I should add, when I go to canyouseeme.org and type in the port I have LW set up thru, it says it can see my port and it is not firewalled...yet LW shows the brick fire wall....

Is your modem/router a wireless one?

Have you tried Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link) to see if it has any effect. Sometimes too many incomplete files attempting to connect at same time affects LW's connection ability. Also you could try disabling OOB under Speed options, perhaps also performance options.

no my router is not wireless, but I think I figured out the firewall problem. For some reason (don't ask me HOW I did it) I had limewire installed twice. One, which is the one that auto came up when I reboot, had the firewall, and one didn't. I uninstalled both versions and reinstalled LW and the firewall is gone!
