New to the forum(Can't connect, Vista)

I am new to the forum and am not sure how to post. I seem to be having a common problem with connecting on limewire4.18. I has been working fine for over a year, then last week it could no longer connect. I have windows vista. I have tried to uninstall limewire and then download again. I tried downloading limewire5 and that did not work either. I deleted the gnuella file and that did nothing for the connection. If anyone has an idea for me to try please let me know. And if I am in the wrong forum can you tell me how to get to the correct one. Thanks. Beaglepup

Usually replacing the gnutella.net file will fix connection issues for older users, and replacing it as described here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html

If you've had problems since updating LW, you may need to remove LW from the Vista firewall rules & then re-add it. :)
Setting up an exception for LimeWire in your software firewall (click in link)

If still no good, after 'replacing' the gnutella.net file & re-doing the LW allowance in your firewall, then try deleting your LW preferences folder whilst LW is CLOSED, yes LW must be closed. To find the LimeWire preferences folder, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/genera...der-vista.html

Are you using LW version 4 or 5 now? I think in PM you said you went back to 4.18 after similar problems with LW 5.

In LW 4.18, you can go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Connections, uncheck option. Close LW. Then open, wait a few minutes until LW totally settles down. Then file menu -> Connect.

Still can't connect

This is what I have tried so far
1. Disable performance options-result 1 green bar
2. Disable - out - of band- Result 1 green bar then its gone
3. Checked my incomplete file under Library tab - it is empty
4. Checked to see if Java is up-to-date- It is
5. I have windows firewall- I deleted Limewire from the exceptions -then added it back in. Made sure Limewire logo was not in system tray.
6. Tried C:Users\My name\AppData\\Roaming\Limewire
clicked Organize-Folder and Search Options-view-ticked show hidden files and folders - clicked apply and ok. Found the gnutella.net right clicked and deleted. Started LW again and nothing changed.
7. Clicked Start- My name- AppData- Roaming-LimeWire-right clicked file and deleted file. Restarted computer did the step by step to install LW again and still no change.:bangh:

I am ready to give up.:mad2: I do not understand why this is happening. I am on vista and like I said before everything was fine until about a week ago. If anyone has anymore ideas please help. Thank you so much

Put a fresh gnutella.net file back from the link you tried earlier.

If still no good, try the two I have uploaded. One is inside a zipped folder. One is from LW 5 & the other from LW 4. If you cannot connect with these or the one you downloaded from that link then the problem is not this obviously.

Which brand & model router/modem do you have? UPnP might not be working properly within it.

I have a cable modem by motorola. My internet is working fine for all other programs. How do I open your zip file. when I click on it - I say open - then get an error response can not open folder.

YOu mean the zip file will not open? Any program that opens zip files should be able to open it. Winzip, winrar, etc. A good free one that can do all winzip & winrar pro can do is Tugzip: TUGZip - The Free Archiving Utility

Internet is working fine for all other programs? Browsers running through pre-opened ports yes, what about games that require special higher ports opened for them.

All other programs are fine. Downloaded a game thru bit torrent and it I was able to play it.
