Unable to play downloaded music from Limewire

I downloaded music from Limewire 5 but I am unable to play it on my Windows Media player 11. It tells me I "cannot play the files because it is corrupt or either Windows doesn't support the file type."

Someone suggested that I downloaded codecs to fix the problem but when i click on certain links for codecs my security firewall warns me not to download from that site.

Can anyone suggest a solution to the problem?

Thanks, Riaan

Who suggested to download 'those' particular codecs?

There are some files out there which suggest you need a particular codec, send you to a specific site which pretends to give you a codec which is actually a virus.

What are the files sizes of those songs? Check to see if you can find them on the following list: Virus thread: Typical virus spam file sizes - Make a note of them (click on blue link to see) ;)

I am having the same problems. I thought upgrading to 5 would fix it, but everything I try to download is infected. My Limewire is useless. What should I do?

Check the link I gave above. Get to learn those file sizes & the ways spammers name their files. :) LW is not useless if you know how to avoid spam. ;) For videos, always check them first with Bitzi; How to use Bitzi Web Lookup. People report whether video files are good or bad, etc. So this is a valuable way of checking if videos are ok before you download them. ;) For LW 5, check post #6 in that link. ;)

So can you tell me what the file sizes are that the spammers use for audio files?:D

I already did. I gave a link above 2 weeks ago. :) Whilst that might not be all the spam audio files, it is certainly the most common ones.
