Followed all the suggestions for getting limewire to work. Loaded, unloaded both Java and Limewire but still get the same message when I try to open up LW. "limewire needs the java runtime environment of 6.0 or above. No matter what I've tried this message still pops up. I'm not computer wiz but take directions well so if anyone can help....I would appreciate it.

Yes, LW 5 versions have an issue running directly with Java 7, the workaround is discussed here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...tml#post368753 with the alternative an installer to do the trick for you. :)

Hi All, I didn't realise that there was such an issue with Java, and 5 version of LW, I still run LW 4.18 and have had no problems with Java updates at all? Also windows 7 and 8 ?

Yes the Java problem only affects versions of LW 5 and in all versions of Windows including Windows 8. BTW Windows 8 is not packaged with Java.
The forum still has links to lots of LW 4 versions including 4.18. They can also be found hosted elsewhere. :)
I tried most gnutella programs out on Windows 8, only one giving problems was LW 5 with Java 7. (Though File_Girl's BearShare installer did not work but I repackaged it so it will work on Windows 8.)
And it seems LW 5 will only use the 32-bit Java 7, so the 32-bit Java needs to be installed last if 64-bit java is installed on the system.
