Javaw.exe Error Closes program

Hi, I just loaded on the Java download as well as Limewire. I have tried to solve this problem with the newest java dowload as well as the 1.31 , and even the microsoft virtual java but can't seem to shake the problem. What is happening is that my Limeware is constantly shutting down and an error message stating "Javaw.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" resulting in the closure of Limewire too. has anyone else encountered this problem? It seems that ever since this started happening, I am also limited to between 2 to 6 downloads maximum whereby previously it would be as high as 12-15 concurrent downloads. Please assist...
Thank You

Same Problem

Running Win2K fully patched. Active apps are zonealarm, Norton Antivirus, Ahole Instant messenger. Have Java J2SE JRE 1.4 installed, although I don't think it makes any difference. Did the same with 1.3.1.

Crashes less often with PRO than the popup freeware ver, but often enough that it's dolor en mi culo.

Exact message is:
-------------------------------------------------
Program Error
javaw.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.
-------------------------------------------------

Of course there's nothing in the event log or in the drwatson.log file.

I've executed drwatson.exe and hope that leaving it running minimized on the task bar will fix the logging problem. Emailing anything I get to the limewire team.

Attached is my doctor watson log file. Don't know if you want the user.dmp file, so I won't attach it as it's over 3 megs zipped (17 uncompressed).

With the Java Console running and trace level set to 5 I see nothing. As if I'm not running LimeWire PRO. It was written in java and javaw.exe crashes. Don't know if there is anything special to have the JVM dump info to this window.

If there is any way of looking at the crash, would you folks ad LW let me know? I would really like to help troubleshoot this serious annoyance to an otherwise fantastic product.

And poof, it just disappeared. Sometimes it does that too. and I have to doubleclick to restart it. My searches are gone. I have one active upload and 9 downloads. I only have ultrapeer connections in my connections tab. I am sharing 818 files. Computer is 1.2G athalon with 384MB RAM.

BearShare vs. LimeWire Pro

Well, as I have not heard any encouraging words for the LimeWire team, I've pretty much given up on it, and I'm using BearShare with much more reliability, although it seems slower searching for files, but that might just be the network.

I'd be happy to provide the LW dev team with whatever they might want to help diagnose the crash, but, oh well. BearShare it is. And after working in the software business in the telecom industry, I've found that reliability is much more important than features.

And I can choose not to install the Ad Ware or whatever it is. I'd be happy to give them a few bucks so I don't have ads or snoopware. Maybe it'll be offered some day.

The latest CVS code fixes at least one bug, that has caused LimeWire to crash under certain circumstances.

Remember that the LimeWire developers do not read all the postings in this forum. If you find a serious bug, go to http://www.limewire.org , register and submit an issue for the core or gui project. That way you can be sure, the LimeWire team will investigate it.

Thank you for your response. I ended up here from the LimeWire.com website and was under the assumption that this was the proper forum to report issues.

There is a whole thread about javaw.exe taking up too much system resources and crashing.

Basically the conclusion was that if you're sharing a large files, Limewire takes up WAY too much memory and CPU time. This can cause it to crash often. I have Limewire Pro and Win XP Pro and was crashing all the time. I was sharing 2000 files. When I reduced it to 20, it ran as stable as can be and the amount of memory and CPU time it hogged dropped way down.

The Limewire team said they're working on a fix right now and Limewire Pro 2.3.4 should be coming out very soon. I'm hoping this will fix the stability problems.

For now, just don't share as much and hopefully it won't crash on you.

Check out the other thread for more details.

I kept getting The" javaw.exe"crash as well as having the application(2.9.10) takeFOREVER to load my shared files(over 1500). After thinkiong about it I tried cutting down the amount of files I was sharing and "Bam!" NO crashes since !!!
