Kernel32.dll Error

Why do I get a Kernel32.Dll error caused by Java2 everytime I shut down Limewire?
Is there a way to fix it.
Thanks

this issue is related to the java application or limewire it's self, i have been experiencing the same issue and have reloaded for the issue. the problem is only present after installing limewire and jre. tech support at limewire needs to address this and find a resolution.

it's easy to say update your os, contact tech support for your os, but that is just PASSING THE BUCK!

if limewire's tech support can't resolve it, replace them with a new batch of monkey's that can!

Me, too (Java error not a Win98 problem)

I downloaded the latest version of Limewire yesterday (8-6-02)and am getting the same error upon shutdown:

Illegal operation:
JAVAW caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 015f:bff7b997.

I agree the suggestion to update Windows is passing the buck. There is obviously something wrong with the Java module I installed.

I hope Limewire will address this issue soon.

It would help in trying to track down what might be causing the problem if you could post some information:

What operating system (Kernel32.dll means it is windows, but 95, 98, ME, XP, NT or 2K?)?
What version of Java (If you haven't already done so, downloading version 1.4 would be a good idea - the link is on the download pages)?
What version of LimeWire (The latest version - 2.5.5. is the most stable version for a while, here at least)?

Many, many people are running LimeWire without a problem - if there is a bug, it is specific to certain setups. Without more information about what each of you has setup, there is no way to find out what the common cause might be.

You could try downloading and installing from the alternate installer (I think this is less automatic - but may bypass the problems you are having).

Windows ME with both the latest versions of JAVA and lime wire. Same problem here, After shut down KERNELL32.DLL message comes up and wont go away. If I fire up y PC and don't use LIMEWIRE programm everything runs fine. It only errors after limewire shut down.

Unregistered August 20th, 2002 06:56 AM

Add me to the group. First time using this program, and I am also coming up with the same problem after shut down. KERNELL32.dll.
That little massgae window pops up and it won't go away. It requires a hard shut down and a full reboot with scan to correct the problem. Only happens with "LIMEWIRE". I am running windows ME with limewire 2.5.5 and JAVA 1.4.

It's a real bug, and passing the buck is not going to help. Any senior members here with a real solution?

kernel.32 dll

I am using windows 98, java 1.4, and limewire 2.5.5, and everytime i shut down limewire i get the window also with the kernel error....I have found out if i hit, ctrl, alt, delete, and knock out limewire when the window comes up, that i don't have to reboot the whole system and scan for errors....seems like limewire would be willing to try and come up with a solution, since this is a major problem....thanks....

I also have this problem and CTRL-ALT DELETE does not even work once the error message pops up! It does not even pop up my window with the option to "end task", "shut down", or "cancel".

I wish someone from limewire would at least tell us they are aware of the problem and are looking into it.

Java Error

Why would I want to purchase the pro version of Limewire if the java/kernal32 issue has not been resolved yet.......or, addressed for that matter?

You can add me to the evergrowing list. I uninstalled both Java and Limewire and reinstalled them and am still getting the kernel32 error when shutting down Limewire.

The developers cannot fix a problem that they cannot reproduce. Most people do not have the problem being reported here.

If you want the problem fixed then you must provide the information needed to track it down. A few people have managed to mention ther setup - thank you.

So far the problem has only been reported for Windows98/ME. Is everybody here with the problem running one of these operating systems?

Similarly Java 1.4 - is everybody running this version of Java (is anybody not running this version of Java)?

Is everybody running LimeWire 2.5.5?

Does the problem happen every time you close down LimeWire?

Does it make difference if you shutdown LimeWire after a few seconds or a few days?

Is there some other information that might be relevant?

Play around - try different things - experiment. You have the problem - so you should take responsibility for finding out everything about the problem that you can. Only then can the developers do something to fix the problem.

Nobody is denying that the problem exists - for a small percentage of people. It is really, really difficult to track down a bug on a system that doesn't exhibit the bug.

Well, I'll step up to the plate...
I'm running Win 98, not second edition. I'm running Java 1.3.1 (Although I seem to have a copy of 1.3.0 and 2 copies of 1.3.1 in my Control Panels through various means I don't understand.) I'm planning to dump all 3 and switch to the new Java 1.4.1 to see if the problem goes away. I am running LW 2.5.5.

I have on occasion gotten LW to close without "bringing the house down", Most likely on the times where I don't leave it running for a very long time.

I have the same problem - I'm running Windows ME, Java 1.4 - along with the latest and greatest version of LimeWire 2.6.3

hmmmmm - maybe this is the time for me to switch to Gnucleus!

obviously there is a problem with the system and lots of people are complaining but no one from limewire is reading the forum. i thought that was most of the reason for these things. i am having the same problem as everyone else...windows me, crt+alt+del doesnt work, have to reboot EVERYTIME i close limwire no matter how long it has been runing. i have java 1.3.1 and limewire 2.6.5...same problem. something is wrong with this whole system. i had problems with limewire 2.4.
