IE 6.0 Crashes with LimeWire 2.5.5 and McAfee VirusScan 4.5.1 Like many others, I am experiencing the following problem - IE 6.0 crashes whenever I start to enter any text into the browser, while LimeWire is running. After searching the forums I found a post that suggested disabling McAfee VirusScan. That appears to have solved the problem. With VirusScan (v4.5.1) disabled and LimeWire (2.5.5) running, IE 6.0 no longer crashes. So who's problem is this? Is it a LimeWire bug? This didn't happen until I upgraded to 2.5.5. I tried disabling various features (download, Internet, e-mail scans) of VirusScan and the only way to solve the problem is to disable it completely. I also tried another suggestion from the forums - removing the JRE that comes with LimeWire and installing JRE v1.4.0 from Sun. This did not solve my problem. I think I would rather not run LimeWire then VirusScan. Both need to be active for IE 6.0 to crash. So until this problem is resolved I will not continue to use LimeWire. |
Hi, I cannot make any promises, but in the past, upgrading to the pro version has resolved this issue. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. The problem is fairly rare, and unavoidable in the near term. We may be able to resolve the issue in the future. Avi |
Java2 I had the same problem mentioned here. I uninstalled just the Java2 piece that was installed with LimeWire and my problem went away ... but, of course, I could then not run LimeWire. Went to the Sun Microsystems Site to try a latest Java2. I installed version 1.3.1.04 from their site. LimeWire works and I have not seen the ie6 crash problem since. |
Java2 I spoke too soon. Somehow, it worked for a while but now, even with the new Java2, ie6 continues to crash. |
Hi, There's a JRE 1.4.1 beta from sun that some people have told me solves this issue. Avi |
This is a (really) old issue. It's with Cydoor's advert system, McAfee Webscan and Windows/Internet Explorer. Kazaa does it too, as it uses Cydoor too. Here's a quickfix for those with this issue. www.mts.net/~spider4/CydoorFix.exe Note that upgrading to Pro solves this too, as there are no ads. Cheers! :) |
