can't uninstall old limewire or install new limewire

I have been trying to load the new version of limewire; however, after uninstalling the old limewire, the new limewire, won't install. It says that there it is unable to uninstall the old limewire. The limewire still exists in my Add / Remove Control Panel.

Any ideas as to how I can get limewire to install???

Regards

If you are running Windows go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs and try to uninstall current resident version of LW from there.

You should then be able to do a clean install.

Ditto to unregistered's post earlier

I'm also having a problem upgrading to the new limewire. The upgrade-install starts going through till it reaches the uninstalling old version, then it comes up with a "missing \TEMP\_is2F\limewire.msi file, can't uninstall old version of limewire. Please contact support" message. The new install ends. I get this same message if I try under add/remove in the control panel to actually uninstall the old before running the new install. I'm running Limewire version 2.5.3, Windows XP. Any help anyone can give would be appreciated.

I have the same problem. I uninstalled the old limewire and tried to install the new version and it says that it can not delete the old version. And in add/remove programs it is still there and I cannot delete it either. I have Windows ME. Someone please help. Thanks.

I have the same damn problem!!!

I'm having the same exact problems that everybody else is having too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok here we go....I've been using Limewire since 2.3.1 with no problems and I've upgraded/updated all along the way untill now! I can't seem to get the latest version(2.79?) to install on my system. I've been looking on the forums for help and can't really get any to solve my problem!! When I try to run the install program for 2.79 I get the errors...Error 1714 "the older version of Limewire cannot be removed" and Error 1603 Feature Transfer Error."Consult Windows Installer Help(Msi.chm) or MSDN for more info"
I've tried to remove Limewire by using Add/Remove programs from the control panel and I also used Regedit to remove all strings related to Limewire and used Windows Explorer to get rid of any files left behind.(all methods I found and tried by reading the forums)
After trying all of the above I tried to run the install program for 2.79 and I get the SAME ERROR CODES AS BEFORE!!! I've tried to put previous version back on like 2.65 and 2.55 and they didnt work either!! BUT I was able to put back my original version 2.3.1 back on my system...I would really like to be able to update to the newest version,BUT I seem to need alot of help trying to figure out what the hell is going on with my system...
I'm running Windows 98SE on a Intell PIII 1.0Ghz system with 512Mb Ram... I really need some help!!!!!

The latest version of LimeWire is 2.8.0

I would suggest you use the above methods again to uninstall whatever version of LimeWire is now resident on your system. Hopefully you will then be able to do a clean install of 2.8.0.

Good luck

Unistalling Limewire

I have been trying to gather information as to how to cleanly and completely unistall Limewire from my computer. From the posts I have seen thus far, its apparant that simply going into the Addd/Remove program features on my Windows 2000 XP will not completely remove the program. I need a step by step process on how to unistall Limewire 2.8.5 for a Windows 2000 Professional OS. Any help would be greatly aprreciated. Also does Limewire have an unistall.exe like other pieces of software?
