can't start LimeWire

I can't start the 2.7.3 version of LimeWire. I have JSDK1.4.1_01. Not sure which is the problem because I upgraded both at the same time. If I double click the icon in Windows, nothing happens. If I try to run it from a command prompt, I get this:

I got the same message. Mine won't start either?

Unregistered November 3rd, 2002 10:58 PM

It seems that the code is calling libraries that don't exist....

Unregisterd Guest dude (whoever you are) - what version of the JRE are you running?

Alex71 November 4th, 2002 01:40 PM

Also getting a startup error message and can't get into Limewire on Windows XP. Previous version worked satisfactorily on Windows 98.
Is forwarding the error message to Limewire supposed to bring a reply? It's been 3 or 4 days now.

Dawgg November 4th, 2002 04:11 PM

Can't start LimeWire?

What version of the JRE are you using Alex71? I'm using J2SDK1.4.1_01 ...

Alex71 November 4th, 2002 06:11 PM

Erro message

Dawgg: Don't know what you mean by JRE. My version of Limewire is 2.7.3.

JRE = Java Runtime Environment. Dawgg is asking what version of Java is resident on your system, not the version of LimeWire. ;)

Erro message

Thanks, Rutro. Appears to be J2SE.

Alex71 November 5th, 2002 01:32 PM

Frustrated with 2.7.3, I downloaded and installed 2.6. Now, no matter which version I try I get an error message and can't get past the Limewire screen that says "loading messages." I can't get the screen off my monitor either (except by rebooting) and the program doesn't appear in the Windows Task Manager so I can shut it down.

Unregistered November 8th, 2002 06:23 AM

mine won't load either

am trying the international version instead. see how that works....

also went to the bigger version of JRE to see if that helps. dowloading it now. it's taking forever.

Alex71 November 8th, 2002 06:30 AM

Keep us posted

Thanks to all who have taken part in this thread; please keep us posted if any changes produce improvements. Meantime, where does one get other versions of Java?

trap_jaw November 8th, 2002 07:10 AM

Somebody else posted the same error with the full error report (always post the complete error message, there is useful information in it) and his problem seemed to be, that a file called "collections.jar" was missing in his LimeWire folder. - This might be a problem with the installer. Anyway, the file didn't change since at least LimeWire 1.6 and you could always copy the collections.jar of a different version into your LimeWire folder.

Another possibility is, that the classpath in your start script is not complete (only on Linux and MacOSX). In that case it would be helpful if you could post the contents of your RunLime.sh file (or whatever the file you execute to start LimeWire is called) here.

The JRE can be downloaded from Sun's website here.

Alex71 November 8th, 2002 08:44 AM

Link doesn't work

Rutro, I clicked on your "here" for http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html
but my browser says it can't locate the remote server.

rutro November 8th, 2002 09:49 AM

Hmmm....

Not sure why the prob Alex71.... Link is fine for me.

Try going to Sun's homepage: http://java.sun.com/ and drill down to the JRE download page from there.

Good luck. :)

Alex71 November 8th, 2002 10:39 AM

Still can't reach it

Rutro: Thought it might be my browser (Opera) but I can't reach the site in IE either. Opera can't find it, and IE says page can't be displayed.

i had the same problem and i downloaded the the version of j2re14101 and now it works fine

Alex71 November 27th, 2002 07:48 AM

Thanks, but where do I find j2re14101?

rutro November 27th, 2002 07:58 AM

Try again.....

You should download the latest JRE from Sun's website here.

But you said in the past you've had a problem with the link?

Alex71 November 27th, 2002 09:01 AM

Hi, Rutro: I did report such a problem in the past, but tried it just now and was able to download j2re... Installed it (and reinstalled Limewire) and it seems to work fine now. Thanks much.

rutro November 27th, 2002 09:33 AM

Great to hear Alex... Glad it worked for you. :)

jod_pcc November 27th, 2002 12:52 PM

I seem to be having a very similar problem, which has not been solved by updating the JRE and re-installing Limewire. Interestingly enough the error message says JAVA version 1.3.1_05 even though I have updated to v 1.4.1_01 :
