Very sad, writing a reply to myself...

Anyway, I have solved the problem myself.

The clue was in the following: Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 316416. If anyone is interested, it can be found at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;316416

The solution was to install new drivers for my modem.
