Limited Search Options

I recently upgraded to 2.7.13 and now the only search option I have for every file type is "name". Where I used to have artist, title, genre, etc for audio and others for other file types, I only have Name. :(

I have uninstalled LimeWire, my installation of j2re1.4.1, cleaned the registry and folders and reinstalled Limewire using the multilingual install with the same results. I then reinstalled the j2re1.4.1 with the same results. I can only search by file name.

Help!

Hi:

Make sure you have "audio" selected at the bottom of your search window. If you don't these options are not available.

audio search problem

I'm having the same problem. I uninstalled 2.7.whatever and just installed the newest 2.8. with the same results. I DO have audio selected and only get FILENAME as a field. It's the same on all other media choices as well. Any other ideas?

I should have read this thread first!

I just posted a new thread before finding this one. The same thing has happened to me. Sounds like a software glitch. But I don't have a clue how to fix it. It sure does put a crimp into search functionality, though! I'm using LimeWire 2.8.5, if that matters.

log on as an administrator on the machine, run limewire once, close it, and then log back in as normal.

or, right-click on the folder that limewire was installed in and uncheck 'read only', 'hidden' or 'system'. (i forget what options are available.)

the goal is to give you 'write' permissions in the folder limewire was installed in.

future versions will hopefully not need this, as they're moving any written files to other user directories.

That worked

sberlin's suggestion worked for me. I just right clicked the folder where LimeWire lives, selected properties from the drop-down menu and unchecked "Read Only." I then had to close LimeWire and open it again, but when I did the search options were back (in audio anyway).

I actually rather like having all the files related to a specific program in one place. I'd prefer it if programs didn't go putting their data in my documents folder (like some games with their savegame files) write permission can be a bi*** I guess.

Thank you sberlin and madcitybob. That fixed it for me also.
