firewall

I'm using LW 2.8.6 on Windows XP. I have the LW option set to "force IP". I'm behind a hardware firewall (router). Do I have to do anything else to get good connections and downloads? I do not want to bypass my router. Am I being hindered because of the router? Thanks, Joe

the only problem you have is that other people may have
difficulties to connect to you or download to you.
if you dont change your router settings you probably wont be
able to accept incoming connections.

OK. So how do I change the router settings? And what do I change them to? Thanks.

You could try allowing incoming ports UDP/TCP 6346 as a starter, ie. for Winroute on the incoming tab for your Internet NIC add:

TCP Any host port in(6346,6348) => Any host all ports

I've included a couple of ports upwards as I found that they are commonly used as well.

thanks for the info. where do I actually make these changes? do I lose much security? should I undo the changes later?
