Missing "limewire.exe" after installing 1.6

Hi,

I have just installed 1.6 (I uninstalled 1.4b) and when I run the shortcut it says limewire.exe is missing. Upon further examination, it seems this EXE has not been installed in the LimeWire folder, in-fact it's nowhere to be seen on the HD at all.

Another installer bug me thinks, anyone else had this?

Cheers

Dave

I have seen a few other people with this problem. Yes, you are right, limewire.exe does not exist. Go to properties of the shortcut that you use to open limewire. Go to shortcut, then target, then type (exactly, quotes in their places) "name of java super directory\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1\bin\javaw.exe" -cp . RunLime
Which is, on windows, usually "C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1\bin\javaw.exe" -cp . RunLime
That should work.

This is happening because you are trying to use the shortcut for your old version of LimeWire.

It is recommended that you uninstall your old version before installing LimeWire 1.6. You can, however, do it after 1.6 is installed as well. You should see two LimeWire's listed in Add/Remove programs. Try uninstalling the larger of the two, or just uninstalling both and reinstalling 1.6. If the one you try uninstalling is the InstallAnywhere uninstaller, then you are uninstalling the correct one.

Thanks Kirby, that worked a treat, I'm up and running now.

Hi Adam,

I don't think that's the problem. As I said in my original post I uninstalled 1.4b completely, I checked the files/shortcuts & add/remove entries had gone, and they all had.

I *then* installed 1.6 but had this problem. I tried this two or three times so I'm guessing it's a problem with the installer.

Dave-

Kirby's solution will work out great (I read all of the posts a little bit too quickly the first time). The shortcut definitely is the shortcut from LimeWire 1.4b, however, but it looks like the uninstaller did not remove it correctly.

There is no LimeWire.exe in LimeWire 1.6. If you wanted to create a completely fresh install, you could uninstall all LimeWire versions, ensure that all LimeWire shortcuts were also deleted, and then reinstall LimeWire 1.6. This will create the correct shortcuts in all of the correct places, but the solution posted by Kirby will do essentially the same thing.

Hi Adam,

I *definately* uninstalled 1.4b and made sure *all* files and menu shortcuts had been removed so I'm guessing it's something in 1.6. Either that or I'm going nuts :-)

Anywayz, it's all working now so I'm happy :-)

Cheers

Dave
