find very few songs during a search

I have windows XP. I am running on a 56K modem and have AOL9.0. My limewire 3.8.9 Pro is having problems searching. When I do a search it is very slow and I find little to know songs most of the times. Once in a while it will work properly but not very often. Please help and thank you.

What happened ?

Hi there,

Not much did happen. I tried everything that was explained about AOL being a problem. My connecton is a bit better but still very unstable. My searches are very slow and most times I find few songs. I was told to get a better defragmenter so I did that. It has help run things faster but not on Limewire. I disabled my built in firewall, and all the extra's on AOL. I don't know what to do next. I would just like to have a good strong connection to Limewire. I have a 56K modem so maybe that's a problem as well. Anymore suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Assuming that the AOL problem is not your problem... (A fairly big assumption, heh ? ...

Check your settings to see how many DownLoad and UpLoad 'slots' you have configured...
For you, it should be 1 of each... No more, and ignore any bs that anyone tells you about how you can do more...

If it is allowed, disable 'Allow others to Browse your shared files'.

Allow connection to a Maximum of 2 Ultrapeers.

You have not said how many files you are sharing...
If it is a large number, reduce them... (Easy to select what you can easily stop sharing by simply searching for the same files that you are sharing - Remove the ones that many other users are also sharing and just stay with the things you have that are more 'rare'...)

Do NOT run large numbers of searches at one time...

Right-Click on the Task Bar on the bottom of your Windoze screen and select Task Manager...
Using Task Manager, check to see what other programs/applications are running at the same time as LimeWire...
You may have things consuming your bandwidth...

For the same reasons, do NOT also run and participate in IRC chat, avoid Web browsing... Well, just simply don't actually do anything else while you are trying to run a p2p client with a 56k Dial-Up connection !

Saw you looking at the Alternative Ports Thread...;)
Be sure, if it is possible, to be connecting with Port 6346...

Thanks so much....

I'll try it all and get back to you. Thanks again.
