Cant play downloaded movies help please

Can anyone help please!!!????/:(
I have downloaded a movie and tried with Limewire to play it and that doesnt work so I tried Windows Media Player 9 that said it didnt recognise it sooooo where am I going wrong please helpbefore I go and get a hammer!!!!!:confused:
My operating system is Windows 98se etc etc

where do I find these codecs?

Sorry Peerless as I am new to this can you please tell me where I get or download these codecs from ?
