I have tried firewall fix, didnt work, i tried the java fix, didnt work, I tried limewire preferences folder deletion fix, didnt work, i am wantng to get this to work cuz i paid for it already or I want to cancel the charge to my credit card if i cant use it, what do i do to fix it, any more options? thanks |
I just read your other post. Wait 24 hours & try downlding the new 4.4 version. It will be released sometime Monday. |
Is that 4.4 PRO? In other words was buying the program pointless or whats the deal? are the bugs getting fixed in the new version, because i just bought it today and it might be too late to do anything about getting the charges cancelled if I wait. also the version i have right now says 4.4.0 isnt that the same thing |
Do you mean nothing is happening when you double-click on the installer, or when you double-click on the LimeWire icon that the installer puts on your desktop? Try going to C:\Program Files\LimeWire and double-clicking on "LimeWire.exe", does that work? Give it some time to start up. Try also double-clicking on LimeWire.jar and see if that works. Let us know how it goes. |
ive tried double clicking on the exe and it did the same thing, i cant get anything ive clicked and waited 5 minutes nothing happens, ive uninstalled reinstalled several times, tried the beta version nothing i went to add remove programs to try repair but under limewire it is listed as remove only not change remove really want to get it working because the first time i downloaded the free version it worked, then when i went back this problem started, that why I bought it, because I loved the program, its the best one of the net that i have found, any other suggestions? |
Did you try double-clicking on LimeWire.jar? |
yes ive tried all the double clicking i can the double clicking is not working this is not something simple, im not stupid, ive tried everything that you have recommended and more, is there anything that might be wrong in setting somewhere or something of that nature. some kind of disagreement with another program maybe anything. ive already bought this program, and charged it to my credit card and now i cant use it its pretty frusterating thanks |
Hi Anne, Thank you for trying what was asked. However, nothing you have said up to now has indicated that you've double-clicked all the files I'd like you to double-click. In order to find a solution to your problem, we need to know exactly what is causing it to go wrong, and if you are able to open LimeWire using this alternate method, it will give us good insight into what the problem is. The directory C:\Program Files\LimeWire should contain the one subdirectory called 'root', and a series of files. You have said you tried double-clicking on the file "LimeWire.exe" -- that one should have a lime-icon. You should also try double-clicking on a file called LimeWire.jar that has no special icon. That may start LimeWire. Please let us know if it does. In addition, please download the file http://limewire.org/LimeWireDebug.exe and place it in your C:\Program Files\LimeWire folder. Then start it by double-clicking. It should open a DOS console that prints out any errors with launching LimeWire. Let us know what that says. Thanks for helping us figure out what's causing this problem. |
... Err ... I was about to reply to a post Lord Of The Rings made. Is the problem you (LOTR) brought up not there any more? |
hey again i went into the root directory, and it had another file in it called magnet, went into that, no .jar. there was a .jar file in the limewire directory, double clicked it, nothing happenend, again. I downloaded the debug.exe, used it, the DOS window came up momentarily, then went away. Kind of like when I double click on the limewire icon and get a hourglass for a second and nothing happens. any other ideas? thanks |
oh also, the DOS window said nothing in it for the split second it was up on the screen |
Hi Anne, The LimeWire.jar file is under C:\Program Files\LimeWire, not under the root subdirectory. You double-clicked on that (not one of the other many .jar files) and nothing happened? Hrmph. Have you gone in Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs, uninstalled Java, gone to java.com & reinstalled it? There's not much else I can do to troubleshoot this right now. We'll try to build a more debuggable version of LimeWireDebug.exe to trace exactly what's going wrong. We'll have that ready sometime late tomorrow. Also -- Do you happen to have a file called "launch.properties" in your C:\Program Files\LimeWire directory? If so, delete it and try launching LimeWire again. If not, we'll have to wait for the newer LimeWireDebug. |
yes clicked on limewire.jar, so whats the deal then, I paid for this but cant use it? I will try the java thing, havent done that, but my prospects arent high. how am i going to get this to work? and if i cant how can i make sure im not charged on my credit card for it? thanks |
You'll have to wait until normal working hours on a weekday until we can actually build an exe that can help us figure out what's causing the problem. Until then, you can use the free version. If that isn't working, I apologize, but there's not much else I can do. |
hey I reinstalled java and the program just worked. I dont get it but sorry to bother you all day. my comp had two types of java on it, i removed them both, downloaded JRE 1.5 and restarted the comp, them installed it them limewire just started, got the PRO version working, thanks for the help. if i can help you out with info on the problems i was having let me know thanks |
Sorry Sam. I was going to add a sample image too. lol I went to task manager & found 2 items belonging to LW in operation. One was 11 MB & I think the other was 33 MB in size. I cancelled both. Restarted Windows & this time LW started up ok & is now working ok. Sorry about that! (I installed on Drive C but I have another earlier version on Drive F. That might have been the problem! I guess I should delete the other!?!) I noticed it has duplicated my port forwarding: ie: it has obviously detected this to be the case. But so far incoming is false. But that may be a limitation of VPC or b/c I may need to use a different port for my modem (ie:forward a separate port for windows.) They are set up as a lan (even though it's the one comp.) I notice now that incoming is still false but I'm getting plenty of hits on my files. A couple have had 32 each & increasing. lol :D Poor people! I'm getting a bit paranoid b/c I don't have protection at present. |
