Limewire bringing comp to it's knees Running: W2K Pro SP2, 2.4 GHz, 512MB RAM, latest Limewire and latest JRE. As of yesterday, running Limewire renders my computer useless; I look in the task manager and I see Limewire is using up 99% of my CPU power. It takes at least 15-20 seconds for my computer to react to any command or click when in Limewire, and all other programs running are as good as dead. Any ideas? |

this happens to me all the time, but my pc is only running at 1.2 gzh, with 512 ram as well. there are several solutions to this that work for me. 1 = close everything including limewire and run ad aware and defrag aswell. this is the main problem with limewire i find, is its ability to completely fragment your hard drive. and it often collects alot of malwares. 2= check in task manager to see if anything else is going on, normally you can spot what shouldnt be running right off the bat. this works fo me, when it happens, that fixes it. now you can run it again. also, you may want to slightly decrease your upload slots as the more people are uploading from you, the more it will use up your cpu usage and bandwidth. any other questions, email me at benbakerzzn@hotmail.com |

Also if you don't have a great connection you shuld disable Uptrapeer capabilities within Speed options. Also don't use the Resume function on all your files to continue them after you start LW. This has side FX such as affecting LW's connection quality & using up all of LW's resources (& your computers.) Set your downlds to Autoclear. Close LW windows you're not using at that time (eg: Monitor, Library & connection windows.) Delete old search results that are more than a few hours old. After opening LW, let it settle! Let it sit for 15 to 20 mins or more. During this time it is loading both incomplete & shared files and is trying to connect with each individual incomplete file. This can take a while depending on how many incomplete & shared files you have. Here's some hints: A well set-up LW can start to automatically continue its dwnlding after it's settled down perhaps 2 out of 3 times you open LW. Optimising LW & Maximising Uplds & Dwnlds A (1st post only) & also Part B which is even better & last & least are search & dwnld hints. The latter one I've been thinking about re-writing for some time. That's just for playing it safe. eg- I show all speeds & qualities. eg: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...028#post116028 |

I just started using limewire myself and have had the same problem and just posted not seeing this post. One thing I did was when in task manager and under Processes I right clicked on limewire and and went to set priorty and choose below normal. So far my computer acts as normal now. Don't know if this a long time solution. ekih |
