windows media player (not responding)

I am new to this so please be patient.
I am running windows XP with SP2. and windows media player. ( which may be my biggest problem, from what ive been reading)
All I basically do is download music from limewire , some video.
I try to manage this with WMP.
I also rip music from my cd collection to share on limewire. ( I think I am, I hope I am)
I also burn my own cds.

My problems began months ago, where WMP would stop and I would get a (not responding) message at the top. I have to do end task now to close WMP which sends an error report to MS. I have tryed to search and understand the error message but I get no where. The message details read.
szAppName:wmplayer.exe szAppVer:10.0.0.3646 szModName:hungapp szModVer:0.0.0.0 offset:00000000
Yiicks! what did I do?

I have lost count on how many times I have used system restore wizard to bring back WMP.
Do I abandone WMP? I would hate to cause I think its kind of cool.
I am really not sure what to do next.

Could someone please give me some easy to understand sollutions.
Thanks so much for any help!

Which version of WMP are you using. If it is version 10 that might be your problem. I use nero ultra. When I first purchased the program it had problems with WMP 10.

I'm not sure if they have resolved this problem yet. But I uninstalled WMP 10 and reinstalled WMP 9 and my problems went away.

I also went to automatic updates website and hid WMP 10 so it wouldn't do an autoupdate to WMP 10 again.

your error message to me indicates some type of corruption has happened, and it is continuing to happen..have you done a full system virus scan lately?..or perhaps you have installed some codec pacs that either have 'problems' or conflicts...

in the end, it might just be easiest to use another media player

I have done a virus scan lately, but I had to do a sytem restore to bring back WMP. I have not launched any music into WMP from LW since so I am not sure how they are getting along.
I have installed " plus audio converter"
Which media player do you suggest and do I remove WMP 10
Thank you for your help

Control Panel

Dear bellabusch

I would suggest that you remove WMP10, using Control Panel, then run your anti-virus and anti-spyware software, to insure you hard disk is clean, and then download and reinstall a new copy of WMP10. After that then check for updates.

This should clear out any corruption, spyware and/or viruses and give you the latest MS video and audio codes.
