Really Strange Problem

Hey guys,

I'm having the strangest problem getting Limewire to run. Originally I installed it (the previous version) on my desktop:

P4 3.06
80 GB HDD (15 Free)
Asus Mobo
Comcast Cable and AOL 9.0 (I don't use AOL for LW)
McAfee Firewall enabled
Latest Java

The first time I ran it, everything went swimmingly. I had been out of town, returned about a week later and tried to start her up.

What I wound up getting was a white square where the program was clearly trying to run and a popup which would normally be asking me to upgrade to Pro (it says so in the title bar) but shows nothing but the spinning lime. Behind it, the LW main menu is trying to load. But I can't seem to get to it. When I close out the Pro popup and the Tip of the Day the main menu window sits there partially filled in but unaccessable with "Enabling Open File Sharing" across the top.

I've downloaded the new version, can't get that one to initialize. It's installed alright but the "select language" popup does the same thing as the rest of the windows in that it shows a blank silver window with "select language" at the top and no other writing or options.

I suspect this might be a Java problem but can't figure out why it worked the first time. I tried the link for the older version of Java but it seems that all roads lead to version 5.0 now.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Deacon

Thanks Fabion,

That is the link that I tried before but it says that I have the latest version and clicking "manual download" or any other Link that looks promising keeps on taking me to version 5 update 1. Unless this is version 1.4 by another name, I can't seem to get there from here.

Perhaps sun took down links to the older version?

Ouch they did. I did some browsing around on there website, and copied this link. http://www.java.com/en/download/help...installing.xml

I'm not sure if it will work for you or not. I have JRE 1.5.0.1 on this comp. and am not brave enough to see if will install the 1.4 version, since everything on this comp. seems to wotk fine with the new version.

Which version of Java are you after?
Directly from Sun 1.4.2: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html (Choose the JRE)

Don't know what happened to Blackmore Java.

... oh well! :D
