Help, I seem to be sharing my entire desktop! I am panicking!

Please could someone explain to me in idiot-language how to organise the files I share with Limewire?

At the moment, if I click on Library, I seem to be sharing my desktop. The folder is called 'Saved Files' but it actually lists most (but not all) of the files on my desktop.

If I delete things, they are actually deleted from my PC.

'Stop sharing' is greyed out.

I cannot find a shared folder within my Limewire folder.

How do I stop my desktop from being shared, and keep a control on what files and folders are accessible by others?

I use Windows XP Home.

Eternally grateful if you can help.

Thanks.

Hazel

In LmeWire go to 1) tools 2) options 3) sharing - highlight the folder - this should un-grey the remove - then just click remove and it should be removed - and not deleted

Fabion, I have done what you suggested.

However, under Sharing, there are NO directories specified.

The list of files and folders in Library/Saved Files are in red text. Does this mean no one can access them?

And do you know why these are called Saved Files? These are not files I have downloaded from Limewire.

Sorry to be a pest. Thank you for your help.

Have you tried highlighting the the file or folder in the LW library and doing a single right mouse click, and then click stop sharing

Yes, I have. Stop Sharing is greyed-out. The only option is To Play List.

LW Sharing entire desktop

Dear Hazel

I'm not sure if you have solved this problem yet but if you haven't then I would suggest you do a complete uninstall of LW, and delete any left over folders/directories.

Afterward, before anything else, defrag your hard drive, this will clean up and maximise the space on your HD.

Reboot your PC then download the latest version of LW and install it.

After installation, create a directory/folder and subfolder for LW to share, I personally do not use the default one, for example P2P/shared. That way you know where the files are suppose to go.

Finally, go Tools>Options>Saving and enter where your files are going, i.e. P2P/shared.

Hope this helps

UK Bob

PS. After all this run your anti-spyware software to check that your PC is free of spyware, just in case there is something else forcing your PC to share it's desktop.

OK, folks, in reading this forum, I was messing and did what fabion said just trying to get to know this program better:

In LmeWire go to 1) tools 2) options 3) sharing - highlight the folder - this should un-grey the remove - then just click remove and it should be removed - and not deleted

I figured I could put the saved file back into the shared file........

When I tried to restore all my files to shared, I can't seem to do it. I tried typing the address of the shared file, and cannot type in that space, nor can I copy and paste it. So right now,

I'M A LEACH!!!!!
HOw do I restore sharing, and is there a way to choose WHICH saved fles to share???

Thanks for all the time you all spend answering our questions!! 'And thanks for all the great music!

In LimeWire go to 1) tools 2) options 3) sharing -- click add

This will open a window, which will allow you to browse and locate the folder you would like to add. Once found highlight the folder then click add. Do yhis for each folder you would like to add to sharing.

You should be able to go to your LW Library and see the newly added folders. If not got to 1) file 2) refresh
