cant make vlc the default media player
 

i jst installed vlc and am glad cos i can play the files WMP cant. bcos vlc can play more types of files compared to wmp, i decided to make it my default player so that whenever i preview downloading files on LW i wont have to switch to whichever player can play such file.

on my "set programs aces and default" i selected "custom" then "use my current media player" with a tick in the box beside "enable aces on this prog". tried opening an audio file but stil WMP played it. tried opening video file, WMP played it also. did it agen and agen but same result. i finaly gave up but cant help but wonder whys that.

ive read a thread related to my case then i did what was sugested ther. i tried previewing the incomplete file by clicking "choose program" (vlc) then i check the "always use this prog to open this kind of file". so excited to try if itl work, i preview another file with the SAME type. LW launched it agen usin WMP eventho i already check to always use vlc! and of cors, it gave me an eror msg cos WMP cant play it.

its gud that i can now view files which i cant b4. but is there a more convenient way to preview it by not going thru so many clicks? i want to jst click preview then for vlc to launch it. what shd i do? any ideas pls?

Were you refering to this Setting Default video app (click on link)? It should work. Remember there's more than one type of video file. So for mpg & avi files you'd need to repeat the process. That's the only way I know. Also make sure it is selected to 'Always' to play that file. Same goes for other media types.

yep, am referin to that thread. and yeah, am tryin to view files of SAME type. its actualy a movie file with 3 parts but all avi files. so i thot when i clicked "always use vlc" when i previewd the first part, LWs suposed to launch part2 and part3 usin vlc and i wont hav to go thru the proces agen cos they are of same file type.

but i tried it agen this time jst to make sure. what hapend was...

lw launched the preview usin wmp agen, thus, givin me an eror msg...agen (sighs).

Instead, go to File>Open with... & select the always open with using that technique.

thats what i did sir. same result tho.
