iTunes Integration

no thats not what I mean. On mac versions.. when you download a song in LW it automatically adds it to your itunes library in a playlist called LimeWire. The version of LW that I just bought is supposed to do the same thing for windows but its not as far as I can tell. Im going to request my money back if I cant figure this out soon. I email customer support a while back and they never got back with a real answer.. anything helpful would be great. thanks a lot though for trying.

Hmmm where did you buy LimeWire from. The basic version is free. Check out this link. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=28751

Also what version of LimeWire do you have?

JeremyMichael81 March 29th, 2005 07:31 PM

i have limewire pro. V 4.8.1 It came out about a month ago. Its not a free version. It costs 18.99. I bought it at LimeWire.com...

Well a lot of people get scammed was just making sure you were not one of them.

I have been thinking about d/l and installing itunes. I guess now is as good a time as any.

I'll let you know what happens. I have LW pro 4.8.1 also. Shouldn't take long.

fabion March 29th, 2005 08:28 PM

Well I just d/l and installed itunes. I set it up according to the tutorial and the post I put the link to before.

I setup 3 different playists in itunes. d/l some music and it appears itunes is working the way it should.

Now I just need to organize my music.

Maybe one of the other members in the forum may be able to help.

The relationship b/w LW & iTunes on a mac compared to windows is different. There is no auto-importing like on a mac. All you get is a LW playlist which is simply a reference to the songs in the LW downld folder (generally called Shared by default.)

So you must use other techniques to actually import the songs into iTunes without it simply being a reference; ie: to physically import the songs into the iTunes Music Library folders.

As you're aware, the easiest is Add. On windows that's Control-O. You can select multiple files at once by holding down the SHIFT key after selecting the 1st one. Coincidentally I'm putting a GiF together about this to add to the above link but haven't quite finished yet. (I need to get rid of the copyright references for show & tell, lol.) But all the same, the windows iTunes tutorial will show this anyway. The above link gives you multiple options.

As far as having the limewire playlist show in iTunes, you need to go to LW's menu Tools>Options>iTunes>Sharing

(Asking for money back? If you're a pro user you get pro mac & windows. lol)

ok so i clicked share my music in LW and when i open itunes i have a playlist that refers to the name i chose. however, in that playlist... it is blank. there arent any songs. and limewire is supposed to integrate with WINDOWS JUST LIKE IT DOES MAC. That was the point of the 4.8.1 VERSION. MAYBE YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT THEIR WEBSITE. If you think there is something else I can do, please please let me know.. but.. i must ask you.. try to be more clear with your posts. in your last post to me, you referenced a link that wasnt even in the forum. and you mention "ADD" i mean.. i dont know what youre even talking about.. thanks

Did you do the consoladation step. I missed that the first time, after that it has been working fine.

I don't know how it works on a MAC, as I've never had one.

But from what I read in the tutorial, which is from the itunes website and not here, and using LotR's references, it appears to be working the way it is explained.

JeremyMichael81 March 31st, 2005 07:16 PM

what am i supposed to consolidate? i cant make a playlist in LW either unless I enable the LW player. i chose not to. and why would i make a playlist and import it instead of just launghing the song when the download is complete. that imports it into itunes itself. I JUST REALLY ONLY CARE ABOUT iTunes recognizing my completed downloads and importing it by itself. you should check out a mac version... it works a LOT different than what you are doing.

Um I am a mac user lol (& have been for 12 years)! Which is why I said in my post "The relationship b/w LW & iTunes on a mac compared to windows is different." Being a mac user I thought the word Add would be straight forward. Add to Library ... whatother command does iTunes have that refers to Add under the menu items. lol

So long as you're happy with the way it works then there's nothing more for me to add here.

By the way, using the LW playlist to add songs to iTunes music library was something I discovered despite not being a windows user per se. lol :D Why the heck other windows users couldn't have discovered it I don't know. But I found it thru experimentation on a win 2k system.

Oh & I think you'll find that your new downlds will go to the LW list within iTunes. I had the same issue when I very 1st enabled it ... songs I had in the Saved Files folder were not initially listed. But it has been fine ever since.

There is nothing at the LW website that says songs are automatically imported into iTunes in Windows. It says they have improved integration which refers to the LW song list that shows up in the iTunes.

Remember this forum is not a part of LW. It is simply run by volunteers & is independent of the LW website. Question asked & answered & more than sufficient references to tutorials for using iTunes at the apple site & importing from LW via this forum. Thread closed.
