Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
11. Approx. how many incomplete files do you have?
12. Approx. how many shared files do you have?

Describe in detail what you do after you open LW. Do you use the Resume/Find sources function on all your files ... this can cause side-fx.
Also, after opening LW it should be left to settle for some time before using. Depending on no. of incomplete & shared files this should be 10, 20 or 30 mins.

thanks for the quick replY!

Running widows 2k
600 mhz (i know..old...like me)
695 ram
2 HD main only 20 gigs with pleanty of free sace....2nd 100 gig...filling up but still should be no issues
Cable modem
comcast provider
norton firewall
I run adware 2E all the time

I have a feeling that it is the "incomplete files' that you meantioned that might be giving me the problem. I have a ton of those!

I run my norton AV nearly every day....and i dont keep too much in my shared folder (as that is on my lowly c drive that only has 20 gigs).

I will give a shot at deleteing the incomplete files

any other suggestions??? questions???

my email is ***

thanks!

Not a good idea to leave emails in posts as people may abuse them.

also...it doesnt really matter WHAT i do after i launch LW. (and also i have been using it for over 6 months). i can have it running in the background....and then just boom....the puter just shuts down. this ONLY happens when using LW....i keep my old machine very clean. I am not saying there is anything wrong with the program....but i am obviously doing something wrong.

Again...i will try the first suggestion of cleaning out the incomplete files and give you an update if that works or doesnt

Computer shutting down & restarting sounds more like a hardware issue (if it's not a virus.) Some incompatibility.

Can you tell us about your graphics card: brand, model & driver version if possible?

Which version of Java do you have?

jrzycty April 10th, 2005 08:35 AM

rage 128 pro

hmmmm...i didnt really have that many incompletes...i deleted them a few days ago thinking that might be a problem.

However..i have reconfiged the firewall.....and so far no crash...so that MIGHT be it.

Hmmmm...as far as java goes...i am totaly clueless

jrzycty April 10th, 2005 07:35 PM

well...the problem still continues.

Not many incompletes.

Any suggestions on the java thing????

I am a graphics grunt....but i can figure out the other software issues with a bit of guidance.

I really dont think i have a virus....i run norton and adware daily.....but who knows.

its not like the machine actualy crashes....but restarts. FRUSTRATING to say the least!!!

Do you have another program that uses lot of RAM and CPU like LW so you can test if your computer is simply overheating? ie a 3d game? It seems like an harware issue, but of course Norton AV is not a good choice for any computer health: use AVAST (free), less CPU, RAM used and less registry messing.

Ciao
