limewire ID3 tag bug! i'm having a huge problem when i update a song's id3 tag in limewire. after i do so, i'm able to play it in limewire, but if i try to play the same song in windows media player, the id3 tag is corrupt and i get an error saying the file type is not supported or something to that extent... this has cost me lots of precious music. if someone can help, please do! :) |
Sounds like your wmp needs an update or get a better player. If you need suggestions just ask. 1st time I've heard of that problem. |
it's not wmp, it's the id3 tag thing in limewire. only when i use it does my files no longer play and my tags are gone. |
Just to add to what bp said, since WMP is a reference player, if it detects differences to the original file that was added to its playlist, then there might be issues. Make the changes within LW before you add it to WMP's playlist. And also remember that if you move the file from its original location then wmp will no longer be able to play it unless you search for it (unless you deleted it of course.) That's why I go for other players like iTunes which has its own music library so everytime you add a file it adds it to its own library. Then there's no stuffing around with changes of location or deletion from playlist addition location or id3 tag additions. |
i know what i saw... and i was just trying to be a breif as possible... i'll include pics... I'll edit the ID3 tag LimeWire... Then, I'll save it and check it's filename and ID3 tag in the My Downloads folder via Windows Explorer... Then I'll try to play the edited song in an external player like WMP... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v447/yanksta/lw3.png ***sorry..while the pictures were real nice and informative, they also contained copyright violations...so I had to delete them, since I would be unable to edit them..Peerless*** |
i'm guessing that no one is able to help me? i'm hoping my guess is wrong... besides, what good is a support forum if its members aren't being supported? ;) |
It may be related to type of tag. Since there's more than one type of id3 tag. Perhaps your wmp does not recognise the particular tag type .. just a thought. There's type 1 & 2 & different versions of each. The later the version the more info can be added. I'm wondering if wmp can handle all id3 tags such as the latest versions that can include much more info. Since wmp is a reference player & relies on the info it initially found upon importing where it stores info about that file ... I wonder if the change to the tag change is then compared back to its original data base & finds a mismatch. That's what I said in my original post. I think that's why BP Max didn't have the same problem as Peerless who normally uses wmp. Using a different player than wmp might just solve it. Just a thought. But maybe it's a bug after all. LW 5 is supposed to have an improved player so we'll see. Quote:

Well Ørbital It's kinda like this. We are volunteers and take time out to help other members and guests who use the program. Some of us don't have much of a since humor. And you need to remember also this program is used internationaly. So what you may think of as a joking around others will take as an insult. |
