Limewire 4.8.1 woe

I used the free version for some while. Rncouraged by it I forked out for the PRO version last week.

I've now installed it on 3 different PCs (Gatewaty desktop, brand new Dell Desktop and HP laptop) all running XP Jome except the laptop which is XP Pro.

On each, after a few minutes' use, Limewire PRO just freezes. There's no pattern to what I might have been doing, just freezes. On 3 different PCs.

I raised a support call but of course I got no reply. I can revery to the basic version OK but I just feel ripped off. Will probably call my credit card company and get the subscription refunded, but I'm very unimpressed by my treatment from Limewire :-((

We get unimpressed when people post simply to blurt out feelings rather than come here looking for solutions. Please read Forum Rules (click here) You haven't given us any information we can help you with. Did you search the forums or look at the Stickies for solutions? I bet not!

Thanks for your reply. I did indeed read both the Forum Rules (which, with the possible exception of the section of vaguesness in Subject, I believed I had complied with), and the sticky section including your own excellent favourite remedies.

My purpose in posting was two-fold: firstly to get help. I'm stuck on what extra info I CAN supply: the whole PRO program (4.8.1) freezes up after a couple of minutes on 3 different PCs, whereas the "free" version is fine. This is on a mixture of XP Home and Pro. I realise you may not be able to offer much help from this, but what else *can* I say?

My second point - maybe this is against the spirit of the board - is to complain that, having been persuaded into paying for the PRO version mainly to support the project, I'd at least expcet the courtesy of a reply from Limewire support. Perhaps support is given for US subscribers only, I don't know? Of course, it's not the fault of forum members so in that sense I am just - as you put it - blurting out my (hurt) feelings.

Sorry if I've offended.

I've heard support can be a little slow at times at responding. They get a very large response but 1st need to sift thru those that are not pro users. Such as those who have unwittingly purchased scam versions thinking they were getting LW pro or just the basic users who think they also have a right to support.

Well maybe the members of the forum might not be of any help but we can try at least.

I'll give you a list of questions which I use as a basic set to ask for background info about users & a couple more. Some may sound irrelevant .. but then they might not be so. I know you've already supplied OS.

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider?
10. Do you use the same LW preferences for the Basic version & the Pro version?
11. What type of graphics cards & drivers are on your machines?
12. I presume these machines are all networked? If yes, how are they networked?
13. Is there anything different about the way you use the Pro version compared to the basic?
14. Do you have both versions installed presently on each machine? If yes, after opening Pro ... do a Control-Alt-Delete & open Process Manager & look to see how many times Limewire & Java are each listed.
