Do you have administrative priviliges for the account you are trying to do this from?

What windows version are you using?
What LimeWire Version?
What Java Version?

Hmmm the only time I have seen that error message, was when I was setting up a user account that didn't have admin. privileges on this comp.

The .limewire folder properties were read only on that user account. because it wouldn't allow any chages to any settings in LW to be written I received that error.
