Leave LW open over night, found it disappeared in the morning. Leave LW open over night, found it disappeared in the morning. It happened 3 times now and I've done some forum search but found no similar post. So I think I should post this. I've no problem downloading/uploading files. I up/downloaded more than 2 GB from limewire now. But every time I leave it open over night, it just isn't there when I woke up. I then try to run LW again, it starts normally just like nothing has happened. No error message or something like that at all. I never use "shutdown after transfer" option. Or even if I use it, it shouldn't shut itself down since many of my downloads is still incomplete by the time I woke up. My system : Windows XP SP2 LimeWire 4.8.1 Java 1.5.0-01 ADSL 512/256 Thank you for your time ^^ |
That may happen if the java virtual machine crashes frequently on your computer. I've seen that problem linux systems but I don't think there is much you can do about it. Does LimeWire crash sometimes when you are using it? The shutdown-after-transfers option will not affect LimeWire unless you close the LimeWire window. If you just minimize LimeWire, it shouldn't do anything. |
Similar symptoms: Walk away from LW 4.10.5 left running and find windows XP sp2 completely shut down. Upon restart, active desktop error is displayed. No problems with next earlier LW version - 4.9? No active desktop items. I do run starstonesoftware.com/eots "eye of the storm" screensaver. Does that qualify as an active desktop item? XP firewall off. No difference if left on. No other firewalls. I've beaten power settings to death. No other crashing. As long as I occupy myself with other applications, LW and XP continue to run. Once left to their own devices, the shutdown inevitably occurs. What is timing me out? ISP issue? I relinquished some more free will to microsoft and finally installed sp2 at about the same time as LW 4.10.5. SP2 issue? Too many questions? For shame.... LW 4.10.5 java 1.5.0_04 nom 56K dialup - 44K is normal connection XP sp2 - last full update 21 Feb 2006 |
re:SP2 issue..I have found in my experiences that there can indeed be some issues with the install of SP2...specifically on an already 'seasoned' OS... on the other hand, I have had no noticeable problems when SP2 was installed as part of a reformat/clean install of the OS...i.e. format the HDD, install XP, then immediately install SP2...err, make that install XP, install chipset drivers appropriate for the MoBo, then install SP2... |
Without repeating myself what I've aleady answered many times, perhaps your spyware program is at fault. See http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=53422 Just search the word pest* on the forum using the search button above right & you'll see many references to this type of issue to spyware programs that don't work properly & do damage to LW & possibly to your system. BTW if you're concerned about the loss of simultaneous connections in SP2 then see http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools & apply. |
Turned off "eye of the storm". Problem solved. I'll sort out the firewall issues another time. Thanks for the insights. |
Firewall issues? Then see this posting & check the entire page as your issue could be your softw firewall or your modem/router; Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link). Make sure UPnP is enabled if it supports UPnP! |
