Well, just ask your favourite artist (or fartist for short) whether she's OK with sharing the stuff:

Dear Pantherseyes

Everything the scam site told you were lies, that means everything you thought you were downloading legally you were downloading illegally.

You would be better off just trying to get your money back rather than trying to rescue anything beneficial from the site you purchased your “free” copy of LW from. After all, these scam sites (and there are well over a hundred of them) were specifically designed to part the gullible from their money.

Next time, be more careful (less eager).

The same site got me yesterday. But as soon as i saw that i was downloading Limewire, I called amex and cancelled the payment right away. That was my first internet scam. It was so easy to get you. They make it sound like your downloading a legit new music service. They even have the nerve to send you a thank you email for your purchase. I will never click on cnet.com sponser links again. I wonder if they now about this scam link on their site.

Beware of www.suprnova.net
The former bit-torrent server seems to have gotten my $34.95 as well. Don't I feel stupid. I will try and get my money back as well.

hitbit September 19th, 2005 03:03 PM

Hmmm,
Surely your card company will withdraw this payment as the transaction was an act of fraud.

Being Conned

This is my recipie for buying on line services.
Try before you buy and if they don't offer a try then don't buy.
The majority of reputable companies believe in their products and have no problem offering a free trial period.
Remember: Never waiver from this path and not only will you avoid being conned you will also help to make all providers offer free trials.

yet another newbie scammed

Hi all,
Have just registered with Gnutella Forums and reading these threads have realised have been scammed for the free version of limewire , Doh ! I know I'm not the first and definatley won't be the last , I presume there is nothing we can do about these scammers but to educate as many users as possible and above all not to be so naieve. Anyway, cancelled credit card and posted link below of site ( possible has already been done).

erinthegod December 8th, 2005 10:27 AM

Another scam site

Hi, my name is erin and I was scammed.

It's been, oh, 24 hours now and according to my credit card company I can report it as fraud in three business days. Meanwhile I was able to get back to the scammer web page and demand a refund. Had to pay some international phone charges, but hey, I want my money back. They'll refund all but nine dollars. So I suppose I need to call the credit card company again in a few days and figure all of the rest out. But if it means I only lost $9, it's not so bad.

But for all of you out there

http://www.tvshowshome.com/

is another scam site. Of course, now that I look carefully, I was paying not for the Limewire, but for the support service that was provided. Exactly how they provide support for a program they don't own, didn't design, and as far as I can tell, had nothing to do with, is beyond me. And when I called up to cancel the "service" the guy on the other end wanted (demanded) to know if I had broken any copyright laws by downloading music or media files.

I'll report back as the story unfolds.

josax April 20th, 2006 04:28 PM

They got me too!

TVshowsHome.com got me too. The above advice of not registering for a site unless they offer a free trial is not bad. Also, watch out for tv.org. As for any of you asking your credit card companys to cancel the subscription as fraud, did it work, curious to know. I can't believe that in the more than twelve years I've been online, that I'd still fall for a scam like this.

josax April 20th, 2006 04:33 PM

oh... and

When i called them to complain. I was told that they give you access to servers that do not come on the LimeWire client by default. So far, searching their site, I've got nothing.

birdy April 20th, 2006 04:38 PM

You might find some info here, ways other members have managed to get refunds from these scammers:)
Get your $$$ back (music members)

erinthegod April 21st, 2006 06:38 AM

Update

Well, I although I asked TVhome to return my money, they did not, the *******s. So I called the credit company and challenged the payment. I then had to prove I had gotten scammed, so I basically printed out all the web-page, highlighting the part where they promised free tv and then mentioned that the copyright infringment information that points out that you cannot download tv for free is not accessable until after you pay. So it was a bit of work, but the credit card company accepted my tale of woe (and rampant stupidity) and gave me back my money. They said that if possible (like if the company broke any laws) they would pass on the information to the fed. watchdog that goes after sites like this.

The moral of the story is, if you get scammed, COMPLAIN! :D

CAN SOME ONE HELP ME TO GET IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION OF GETTING IT BACK. PLEASE EMAIL REPLIES @WEDDIONE@YAHOO.CA GREATLY APPRECIATED

birdy July 12th, 2006 07:48 PM

360Share isn't LW, sorry but you were scammed. Check out the thread below
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...879#post119879

Basic LW is free, Pro costs $US18.88 for 6 months of updates & email support. The only official site to get either version is www.limewire.com & your email address won't be in LW's database if you purchased from a scam site.

You should contact your bank/CC company & report this, most have a department to deal with scams/fraud.

LimeWire has their own site, www.limewire.com , and you obviously did not go there...hopefully your lawyer has a clean glass belly button and he won't make the same mistakes you have:rolleyes:

Cannot Pay

Really have no idea where to post.
I'm tired of having to deal with the ZIP number :nono: ! Not everybody in the world has 'em you know?
just because of billing Address typing problems I cannot get the PRO version...is there other way?

SinisterMNKY July 17th, 2007 07:01 PM

What did I do?

I think I may have deleated an important file that enables me to open up my limewire pro and now i can't do it. I have paid for the membership once already, and have used Lw pro alot b4, but now that I can't open it does this mean I have to download it and pay for the subscription again? If not can someone help me figure out a way to download the necessary files that I need.... please

les972 November 6th, 2007 02:32 PM

All a scam

It doesn't matter where you purchased Limewire from as it is all a fiddle.
It says it is a one time charge with no recurring fees but yet they stick a irritating message at the bottom of the page which says that a new update is available so long as you PAY AGAIN. So much for the one off payment, lying gets

GeorgeS September 27th, 2008 12:02 AM

I'm wondering what the scam is? Limewire is open source? Limewire charges for Pro. What's the difference. They are free to compete and participate. You can't get a refund if it's not illegal. I got into this with 360Share from mp3musicaccess for ~$25, not knowing much about this field. Then got to know free Limewire and use it cos it's less buggy. Now can't connect to the other network anymore (out of business?) but they provided other info and useful service for a newcomer, and their network seemed to have some different good search results.

birdy September 27th, 2008 01:32 AM

Use Goolgle to search for 360Share Pro Limewire scam, 360Share scam, 360Share Limewire scam:blink: Use the forum search to look for 360Share:blink:

If you're happy to pay for a hacked old version of LW Pro & pay for support that you can get for free then go for it:giggle: On their site, they claim that the members area includes access to "a collection of tools that include video players (allow you to play the latest video files), CD burning application and much much more…" I bet they're all freeware anyway!!

Personally, I'd have doubts about any product that offers you a 'free' version, then requires you to 'register' your product & then turns out to be a 3 day trial:p

All you get is a re-badged version of LW that connects to exactly the same network (gnutella) as every other LW.

GeorgeS September 27th, 2008 02:20 AM

"Hacked old version" sounds right, and imperfectly hacked. But not an illegal "scam" exactly. We don't get support on free LW. Their collection of tools is freeware alright, but that's a help to newbies. If I knew of free LW of course I wouldn't have bought that.
But are they still in operation? I guess so.

birdy September 27th, 2008 02:32 AM

I would've thought the support for basic (and Pro) LW here is pretty good. And not to mention, free. There's also the 'official' LW forum LimeWire Forums. Free support, again.

I'd rather see a newbie come here & get links to freeware programs, than pay money to a scam site for the same info.

There will always be unscrupulous jerks who are happy to rip off unsuspecting people.

GeorgeS September 27th, 2008 02:46 AM

Thanks. But a Forum is not "Support". Forums are catch as catch can, a wilderness for newbies to be lost in. I mean it's not Limewire's obligation to deal with us here.
