Please Help!! javaw error

Please Help!! Every time I run limewire(1.6), I get an javaw error and limewire closes. I can usually re-open it without restarting my computer, but why is this happening and how can I fix it?? I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice now.

TruStarwarrior September 29th, 2001 05:54 PM

Perhaps you could try re-installing JAVA 2 Runtime Environment?

Unregistered September 29th, 2001 06:13 PM

I have reinstalled limewire and java twice now, once through limewire and the second time I installed java through their site, then installed limewire. Any other options??

Javaw

Your not the only one, I got this error after cleaning up un-needed files in my windows directory. Before anybody tells me what a silly boy I am I'd just like to point out that it was the 'cookies' 'favorites' and 'temporary internet files' directories that I deleted, and I don't use IE (I've never installed, having disabled it in Windows 95 setup)

I use Opera 5.12 as my browser and the Java distro that comes with it.

Could you please write out exactly what the error message says? I might be able to help you out a little better if I know what error message you're receiving.

:-)

I've gotten several different ones, but the one that happens most often is javaw had caused and error in JVM.DLL and limewire will now close. Usually I can just start it back up again, but sometimes it resets my computer or won't open at all. I also reinstalled java for the third time and it didn't help.

Javaw Error

OK Error is as follows...

I'm running....
Windows 95 OSR2 (minus IE3)
Sun Java Plugin 1.3.1_01
Opera 5.12
Limewire 1.7

Uninstalling Java and Limewire and then re-installing has no effect. However calling up an earlier copy of my Windows folder, does make it work.... for at least another two runs... after which it goes back to the Java error.

My brother says that's what you get for using Java, but he's a Microserf so any help to prove him wrong would be appreciated!

Java is not in my arena. Sorry.

I have found that reformatting and re-installing everything can fix a lot of problems, but that becomes a pain after a while......

This sounds like the infamous javaw problem with 1.5 (But not quite as infamous as the new.net problem, which I solved). The file just isn't there. Download it here, and put it where it wants it.

Microsoft Knowledge Base has the answers

The above links to the Microsoft Knowledge base contain the answers to your questions.

Also, update your system frequently.

If you're not running IE 6.0 thats cool, but wether you use it or not ... upgrade to to it because the OS uses it. It coorects numerous problems that some systems have ... namely, Windows ME.

The microsoft programmers who coded windows ME must have been stoned.

not stoned

the makers of ME weren't stoned, ME is actually a virus that microsoft made to make people buy it, and then have to switch over to a different OS, see windows ME doesn't stand for mellenium edition, it stands for Multiple Error

The error I get with every version if limewire after 1.7 is as follows:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error

Program:C:\Program Files\Javasoft\JRE\1.3.1_03\Bin\Javaw.exe

abnormal program termination

No matter what I do, the only version of limewire that will work is version 1.7. :(
