All files downloaded contain W32 virus or the like

All week every download attempted has come up with a virus warning from my Norton program. Therefore, rendering it unable to be downloaded....anyone have a clue on how to fix this?

So, it's not just happening to me. Almost every file I've tried to download will cause Norton to go off saying that it's infected with the W32.Alcra.B virus, but occasionally I get warnings of other virus.

Bottom line, either all the files are infected, or something is going seriously wrong between Limewire and Norton.

Wow, while I was registering to reply to this, I actually had two files that were downloaded and virus free. I think those are the first two in a week.

If there are actually that many infected files out there, I wonder what the heck kind of Anti virus program people are using, because there are hundreds of infected files. And hundreds of users have those files on thier PC, in thier shared directory. Thank goodness Norton catches mine.

Dear Budweiser714

I, like you, believe in protecting my PC from the nasties that are out there on the internet and P2P network. However, I despair at number of newbies that hook up to the internet (and P2P network) as soon as they get a new PC then come running back here saying that LW as screwed their PCs.

So I guess what I am saying is that there are a lots and lots of people out there without virus scanners and are just too lazy to get one, free or otherwise.

I also suspect that the RIAA are seeding the P2P network with viruses, courtesy of their paid agents who already spread fake files.

I believe things are likely to get worse for us before they get better.

That was timing.......

Well, just like budweiser, I signed up regarding this issue too. After some considerable research (about 10 minutes anyway), according to all the major AV software companies, it isn't a major threat.....however, I'd rather not take the chance. Depending on your AV, it is either known as W32.Alcra or W32/Alcan.worm!p2p. I have found it amongst 3 of my downloaded files, and they all had one thing in common, all 3 files were EXACTLY 851.7Kb in size, and all were .zip files. As far as music goes, I've had no problems.
