Major Crash using Media Player Classic

Hello. I am glad there are people on here willing to give support for the non-pro version of Limewire. I actually bought it a while back and since lost it and changed email, and even though I know I could pursue it, the regular version has been working fine for my purposes and so I just haven't yet found the occasion.

Anyway, recently I did a major overhaul for a computer that belongs to my little brother and removed Kazaa and a ton of spyware/virus from the system, and installed new limewire. On his system however, whenever he tried to open a preview video file before it finishes downloading or any video at all while Limewire is still running, the system crashes to a messed up desktop resolution that appears to be that of the movie he was attempting to play. The only way to escape this is hitting ctrl+alt+del and trying to get the mouse over the shutdown dialogue to avoid a hard restart.

They are currently using Media Player classic. This happens with or without checking the box that says to have Limewire play the movies. I also attempted to update the player's codecs to fix the problem using Ace's video codec pack, however the results are still the same. System is running Windows XP Pro SP1, with latest directx 9c. I have the exact same configuration on my PC and it works great.

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening or how I might fix the problem?
