Default Is Limewire doing weird things?

Hi folks...my first time here. I loaded Limewire a few weeks ago...so impressed was I, purchased PRO 4.8.1. Initially I was really pleased...download times greatly improved,etc...then I realised something strange was happening. After a few hours of running LimewirePRO, my available RAM was dropping considerably, even if I wasn't actually up- or downloading at the time. Eventually I get a box telling me Limewire cannot connect to the internet, and the whole computer really slows down. (Move the mouse and the cursor gradually moves across the screen in fits and starts, etc...long delays in opening pages, etc).At this stage, it's not only Limewire that's been "thrown out" of the internet...it's my whole system both IE and OE cannot get on line. I tried having Windows fix the prob...it advises it cannot. I shut down, reboot, and all is OK again again hour after hour until I start-up Limewire, and the whole scene is repeated over and over. I've looked in the forums to try find this problem, but cannot. Am I the odd one out? I"ll mention a bit about my system...it may help. Windows XP Pro, 512 RAM(is this enough?), 1.6 P4 (will be upgrading to at least 2.8 P4 later in the year) 120G hard drive...about 80% available, DSL connection 512/128 (even when my computer starts acting "funny", but before the ISP disconnect, I still get a dowload speed of 40 to 50 KB/s. I have RAMidle showing on the taskbar, that's how I know the available RAM is dropping off really fast. It also tells me the CPU usage is at or about 100% when this strange stuff is going on, even though I'm not actually up- or downloading at the time. I scan every downloaded file before opening and do a complete system scan every 2 days at least. Any thoughts? Or should I contact the Limewire PRO helpdesk. Thought I'd try here first. Thanks.

Without knowing what other programs are running in the background it is hard to tell but my guess is you are probally running a little low on ram. Windows XP requires 256mb min. ram to opperate propperley, LimeWire 4.8.1 open not minimized on my computer would creep up to 80mb after about an hour. If you are running Norton antivirus and Norton firewall another 40mb etc. 512mb on a machine running XP is a little weak some times it will run your O/S, office , and other lite applications at the same time but when you start running more memory intensive programs you might be running a little short. You might want to try the new beta 4.9.10 it does not appear to use quite as much memory also when you minimize LimeWire it appears to use less memory. Also I see you are going to be upgradeing your computer the first thing I would do is get another stick of 512 for the money spent it will be your best preformence booster. Then get the new CPU latter because if you get the CPU first you are still going to be a little weak on memory. The link below will take you to 4.9.10 sticky there is a link in there for basic . Pro can be downloaded from your personal download page.

Hi Grandpa...thanks for your reply. I tried to give all relevant details in my original post, but forgot about what else is running! Actually, not much! I had already taken several apps out of the start-up menu...including Office! Basically, apart from the essential Windows stuff, there's only RAMIdle, anti-virus, Any DVD, everything else I start up as needed. To be more exact about the drop in available RAM, before I open Limewire, it's about 320-380 available. After Limewire has been running for a while...even in the task-bar with no ...or not much...obvious activity, available RAM could be as low as 50-80. When I shut down, reboot, it's back to 350 or so. But today, suddenly things seem to be changing. I had a Limewire dialogue box telling me there was an "internal problem", but Limewire was able to keep functioning. A report had been prepared, which I sent. After that...maybe purely coincidentally, but perhaps not...things are much better. I've not lost contact with the internet, and available RAM has not dropped much below 190-220. A big improvement.
We'll see what happens. In the meantime I seem to be running as "turbo-charged" for just about all the time. Thanks again for your help.
