Problems downloading and browsing

Now whats up with the latest versions???

I got so much trouble with it now, its annoying. It didnt help diddyledoodle to downgrade either, as it seems some settings or stuff are stuck...

First of all, i have problems downloading. Whenever i press "download" on a file (or doubleclicking it), it adds it to the list, but seconds later it says "need more sources". If i refresh any search OR browse the host which has the file, it shows up. This happens on like 7 of 10 files.

Second, "browse host" does NOT work on the window of the files in queue (download list). Not a single computer or user can i browse. Browsing only works if i go to the search-window, and browse the hosts from the results.

Any help would be great, as i cant find the answer to this anywhere.

It worked nice a week ago before i upgraded from version 4.8.something to the 4.9.*

I currently have 4.9.26, running a Celeron 3200+ with 2gb ram on Windows XP pro.

IM WITH YA ON THIS ONE.
I am having a few problems with the new Limewire
I can rarely browse & the only time I can download is if I unblock the individual ip #

I have all my ports set correctly. Spent hours reading all the newbie posts & every post I could find on firewall issues.
I am using McAffe Personal Firewall & have been the whole time I have used Limewire.
I never had a problem until the new versions starting 2 weeks or so ago.

Before I downloaded this latest version the one before this one started the problems for me. Sadly the site does not have the version I used before. I have erased my .limewire folder, then gave up & reinstalled. My windows xp firewall is off.
I saw some detailed instructions on ports in a post & I believe one mentioned port 80 setting, I cant find the post anymore but that worked before I downloaded this last time today.

I thought the latest version would be the fastest I should of stuck with what I had...lol

If anyone knows what else I need to set my firewall at, I have already done the 6346 but there was another step that did the trick for me last time....please post if anyone has a clue.

I have read everything in here on firewalls that I can find & my test is showing that port 6346 is open but I still cannot d/l unless I can search the Ip, browse, then write it down & unblock individually.

Thanks for all the great tips in here, I am still trying...

dont know whats going on...
happened after I had to reformat

I checked settings, followed what was suggested
then started unblocking individual ip's I wanted to d/l from
after a few days it looks like its working better now...but
I also removed limewire and went back to an older version of limewire

I will check out the link just posted above

Just thought I would share what happened in my case since I see this happened to someone else also:cool:

Thanks for the suggestion and link but I had already checked the licensing pop up as I saw it in other posts so it isn't this that is the problem.
I used to have a really good service with all downloads connecting and downloading quickly until I upgraded to new version there must be something else wrong its really frustrating

Need more help here!!!

Geminiman it might be worth trying an up date to 4.9.28 (unless you made a typo!)

Are any of you using Pro? I imagine not ... BTW switching to pro is not going to cure your problems.

The people who can best help with this seem to be off tonight, but hopefully they'll have some ideas as soon as they reappear!

LW 4.9 is more sensitive to firewalls & UPnP is more sensitive, particularly if attempting to run in Ultrapeer mode. Disable ultrapeer capabilities under Tools>Options>Speed.

See the following link & follow “ALL” the off-shoot links to find hints & extra skills to help solve your problem: To continue files downlding (click on link)

Marianne:) disable your XP firewall: go to the control panel, double click on Windoze Firewall, check the disable box. Norton & XP firewall are known to cause problems if both are active at the same time. Alternative instructions for Norton: *Configuring Norton Internet Security

BTW LW 4.9.29 has been released & is probably well worth installing instead of 4.9.26
