Limewire 1.7 will not install on XP

I am running Windows XP and I can't seem to get Limewire
Version 1.7 to install. I have installed the proper Java support,
but I constantly get a Unhandled exception error 0x80040303.
Has anyone had this problem and if you have do you know a way around it? I realize XP is not supported yet from Limewire creators but I have been reading that some other people were able to use Limewire with XP.

Thanks

Try logging in as Administrator (root or super user) before installing it. Any luck? If not, come back here.

im an admin

I created only one user account when I installed XP which
was an administrator level account. I have installed many other programs like KaZaA and Bearshare without problem. I'm used to Limewire and I would like to continue to use it with XP if possible. I have also tried to set the Setup.exe to use Win 98/ME
compatibility mode to see if that would emulate the proper registry for the program to install properly. No Luck Yet

Thank you for your effort!

I fixed the problem!

If you want to install Limwire 1.7 on XP. You need to install the program in Win2000 compatibility mode. Download The setup.exe to your desktop then right click on your setup icon, choose compatibility tab, and select run this program in compatibility mode for Win 2000. Thanks for all who tried to help! I hope this helps for others.

The version of InstallShield that we are currently using does not support pure XP installs. We will soon be using InstallShield Developer 7.0, however, (a brand new product) that will support XP. LimeWire 1.8 will likely using Developer 7.0, and will be XP compatible.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Weird cos it installed fine on my XP-Pro setup, no compatibility modes needed i just installed and it worked fine
default everything, and it works a treat :)

try getting the latest java plugin from java.sun.com
otherwise your xp install must be screwed cos it works fine for me

The latest Sun install may have done the trick for you, as its primary feature is XML compatibility. We are working on a new installer right now that will be more compatible with XP as well, and that should be released in LimeWire 1.7d beta quite shortly.

Install the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine

After much frustration I.....
1) Removed Limewire
2) Installed the microsoft Java Virtual Machine
3) Reinstalled Limewire setting the compatibility mode to Win2000 (although I suspect I didn't need to do this)

It ran fine. This is on Windows XP Home Edition.

Have Fun !
