LimeWire won't open It has been a week or 2 since I used LimeWire and it has been working fine. But I tried to open it today and it won't do it. I click on the icon and it isn't opening. Every morning when I start my computer, I do get a message saying that something bridge.dll can't be found, but the rest of my computer works no problem. I can get email, I can go on internet, etc. Does anyone have any ideas, what is happening? Hope you can help me. CARINA |
I guess no one knows. Oh well. Guess I won't be able to download for now then. Hopefully it will fix it self. Another question: If I would delete LimeWire of my computer would all my downloaded music go lost too? Or can I move them to another folder and they will then stay? CARINA |
Go to the Start menu, Programs>LW>Uninstall. No your downld folder won't be affected. Then re-downld the installer (choose the offline installer) & try installing again. It sounds to me like your registry needs a clean but I'm not a windows expert. Oh & please read the forum rules which are posted at the top of every section of the forum. Too many new members are not reading them; Forum Rules (click here) These are the Limewire sections: Limewire Forum sections Post in the wrong place & nobody will answer your thread. |
Thanks for that. I just did that, but it still won't work. So, no clue how to fix that RUNDLL thing, I guess it has to do with that then. Also thanks for the clearance of where to post things. It really isn't very clear what to post where. CARINA |
Not sure if this is the right place, can someone help? I already posted this in a different area, as I couldn't figure out where to put my problem, and I was told it wasn't. So, hope the place is right here. It has been a week or 2 since I used LimeWire and it has been working fine. But I tried to open it a few days ago and it won't do it. I click on the icon and it isn't opening. Every morning when I start my computer, I do get a message saying that something bridge.dll can't be found, but the rest of my computer works no problem. I can get email, I can go on internet, etc. Does anyone have any ideas, what is happening? I have already uninstalled Limewire and installed it back again, but that didn't do the trick either. It just must have something to do with that RUNDLL module, but I don't know how to fix that. Hope someone can help me. CARINA |
1 Attachment(s) The only references of dll i can find on the forum either refer to viruses or drivers. lol :D I did find this one: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...&highlight=DLL I wonder if you should try the 'Other' version. If you go to the LW downld page, you'll see at the bottom an option for 'Other' & after downlding all you do is unzip it & use it. (an old sample image sorry!) (BTW try to keep all your posts about one topic in the one thread. I moved your threads & merged them. Also use the user cpm button above & press the f.a.q. button to learn how to use the different functions on the forum.) ;) :) |
Hi DanielleCarina What version of windows are you using and service pack? The bridge as you called it I believe is a part of your network connection. Or it is in windowsXP. It is how your network adapter card and ethernet/modem card communicate with each other and the internet connection without confusing each other and other users on the network. If you are using windowsXP you can go to start>my computer>my network places>view network connections. You can highlight the network connection, and on the left side of the screen you can click repair this connection. This may or may not help in this instance. NOTE: you may see more than one network connection in that window including the bridge. You need to repair the connection which actually connects you to the internet. The help and support center in windowsXP has more information on this and how to setup your network and connections. start>help and support center Also did you just recently install the windows updates on your machine? |
Thanks Lord of the Rings. And FAbion, I did try what you suggested about the repair connection, I did that and it still won't open. I don't think there was anything wrong with that, otherwise I wouldn't be able to go online at all. I deleted a programme last week, something Java and I think with that it must have taken that bridge something out. I will have a look if I can find something in the XP Support though. CARINA |
Did you reinstall Java. Sometimes people have problems with one particular version on their setup be that 1.5 or 1.4.2 & swapping over to the other can sometimes fix problems with LW. See Fixes for Limewire for tips. |
If you removed java from your system LimeWire won't work. LimeWire requires java to operate. LOTR has put a link that has the java links. In windowsXP start>control panel>add or remove programs --- see if you have a program called J2SE Runtime Enviroment 5.0 Update 4 or something similar. If that is missing you do not have java installed, and need to install it for LW to work/run. It is also possible that the java for some unknown reason may have been corrupted. You can remove from the add or remove programs, and try a fresh installtion. Just follow the instructions in the link LOTR left in his post. I suggest d/l the offline installation version, if you need to reinstall it. |
That is what I am missing. What happened is, I emailed a support place for Zylom Games, this is with my former provider, because the games weren't working. So they asked where I had my JAVA downloaded, if it was at a place called SUN, I had to delete and download it from a place they gave me, so that is what I did. I went to the place to delete programmes and got rid of a few things called JAVA and I seem to remember that one of them was what you named, the J2SE. So, I am downloading it now, hope I chose the right one, because you get the choice of so many, Linux, solario, windows, so I chose the windows one. It is downloading quite slow, but hopefully it will do the trick. Will let you know. Thanks for the help. CARINA |
Well, something went wrong there. I downloaded the JAVA, but it eventually gave me a failure message. I checked my software and it has J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2 and it has JAVA 2 Platform , Enterprise Edition. So, I am not sure if it all went through and that I should delete it again and try again, as Limewier still isn't opening and I still get the error message with the bridge dll missing. AAAHHHH Sometimes I get desperate with these computers. CARINA |
This link is to newest version of java, just choose the offline installation for windows. http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp hope this helps. |
YEAHHHH!!! IT is working again. Thanks so much for your help LOTR and Fabion. Very much appreciated. Not sure if I still get that error, but will find out tomorrow. Now I can download again. CARINA |
