Unhappy My Computer Keeps Restarting Because of Limewire

Hey, I'm new to the forum. I've been using Limewire for a long time now and only recently I've been having a really huge problem with it.
Each time I run Limewire, my computer restarts. And this is really confusing because:
- This never happens with any other program.
- I don't have any viruses: I scanned my PC with Ad-Aware, Spyware Doctor and Norton AntiVirus. Nothing was found.
- I don't have a problem with my fan.
So basically I'm really lost. I read somewhere that Limewire had some problems with Ethernet cards, but if that's the case then how come this problem only appeared now on the same PC!

My PC is:
Microsoft XP Pro 2002
Service Pack 2
Pentium 4
CPU 2.66 GHz
512 RAM

Please let me know what can be done because I use Limewire on a daily basis and I really don't know what to do without it!

Also, is there any other P2P software that won't give me this problem?

Thank you. I can use all the help I can get!

#1. Have you recently added any new programs/software.

#2. Have you tried to do a system restore to a point prior to the problem starting.

#3. Have you done a boot scan since the problem started with Avast or any other AV program.

Some viruses can disable your AV. The link below will take you to Avast it is free I suggest you DL it and do a boot scan. When you install it , It will ask you if you want to schedule a boot scan select yes.

You can try BearShare Lite you can get it at the link below.

Thanks for the reply. Here is the result of the scan. I don't know if the unscanned files are dangerous or not. Just thought I'd show you.

Also, the last software I installed was Spyware Doctor, don't know if that has anything to do with Limewire's problems.

I also tried to uninstall Limewire and reinstall it but same thing is happening.

Anyway, thanks for your new suggestion. It is spyware/adware free, right?

Thanks again!

BearShare Lite is spyware free I recently did a comparison between Limewire and BearShare Lite you might want to read it there is U.SaveNow adware in but it is easily removed. The link below will take you there.

I see you recently installed Spyware Doctor I believe it has a tool called registry mechanic in it that fixes windows errors. If you have run one of these types of programs recently that could be your problem. I have tried allot of these types of programs and for some reason they seem to remove things windows need to operate properly. You may want to do a system restore to a point to prior to the problem starting.

Thanks for the advice. I uninstalled Spyware Doctor and reinstalled LW. It worked perfectly for about half an hour, something which was not possible before as the PC restarted after max. 5 minutes of running LW, so I thought it was fixed. But then my sister opened Real Player to listen to something and there it went again... After restart, I ran LW without opening any media player and so far it's been running without any problems for 2 hours. My question now is: does this problem make sense? Should I not be opening any media player while running LW? Anyway, thanks again very very very much!

I looked at your computer specks you should have no problem running other programs while LW is running. You did not say if you ran any Windows repair program that was supposed to fix your registry. If you did you may have to repair Windows. Allot of these so called Windows repair tools remove links , .dll , and other components windows needs to operate properly

Nope didn't do that yet. Which program would you advise me to use to fix the registry 'cause I did a little research at download.com and found quite a collection. Also, can you please tell me whether I'd be losing any files if I do this or it just fixes the errors? Would I be obliged to reinstall Windows back and everything else? 'Cause I don't know much about this.

I do not recommend you do one if you don't know or even if you do know what you are doing. They can mess up your machine they will sometimes remove things you need for you operating system to work properly.

This is a problem that is not real common and is usually a Windows problem the link below will take you to Norbie's World it is a free computer on line diagnostic site I occasionally go to the site and read the forums when there is a problem here I can not figure out.

You will have to register there and they will have you run some test for them and diagnose you problem. And hopefully find a solution. Could you post back here and let us know how it goes.
