Old Version?

Does anyone know how or if I can download the previous version of LimeWire? The current version, I think it's 4.9, does not give me as many search results as the previous version.

You can find older versions through LimeWire. Click on Programs and in the filename box type LimeWireWin. You should get some LimeWire programs in your search.;)

Cool. I got alot of results for LimeWire. This is probably a stupid question but I'm not familiar with the way the version numbers go. Do I just start subtracting from the current version number to get the previous version?

When I first downloaded LimeWire back in July, it was 4.8.1. Try to get a version that's in the 4.9 area. 4.9.7 was quite good and so is .27. Try finding those versions and let us know if you have any problems.:)

irisfreamon If you go to:

http://www.limewire.com/english/cont..._history.shtml

You will see the history of the different Limewire versions.

btw which version ARE you using ... what is the number after 4.9?

I do wonder about the search quantity difference you mention at the start. I get the feeling that the number of decent sharers on the network is not growing in the same proportion as the number of downloaders.

I also wonder if Limewire is being successful in filtering out some of the unwanted results that are out there.

It would be interesting if you could make some comparisons between the two versions, if you decide to return to an older version.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Ok. I downloaded a couple of versions from LimeWire but when I try to launch them from the library a window pops up that says "LimeWire will not launch this file for security reasons" Does that have something to do with my firewalls or virus scanners?

Perhaps We've been assuming too much here!.

What you should have got is an installer for whatever Limewire version it is. I also would hope that you have run a virus scan on it. It is a good idea to make a copy of your old (well in this case new) version and keep it somewhere safe like on disk or another hard drive. Hopefully you still have the installer for it. You then need to run the installation programme of the recently downloaded Limewire. probably by double clicking on it whilst your installed version is completely closed, but as a mac user I'm not 100% sure how you do this. This will delete the previosly installed version and hopefully the newly acquired version will be installed.

This is somewhat basic stuff which I assumed you were familiar with. I hope this explains things.

Please note that afaik you cannot launch any programme from the Librarry window and certainly not Limewire!

Btw I would suggest you think VERY carefully before installing anything AFTER 4.9.30

It might be safer to go to your Start menu> Programs>LW>Uninstall & after removing LW, then reinstall. I'm not sure if you can reinstall the same version without uninstalling it 1st. In any case, uninstalling will make sure any corrupt components are removed. Also you might be wiser to get the "offline" installer & thus not installing over the net.
