Help Needed: Shared Files

I just recently got Limewire & seem to be having trouble with the sharing of files. I am using the basic free version & running windows XP. The set-up wizard seemed easy enough & I specified the 2 places I wanted to share my files from. However, About 7 of my video files are listed in black, but the rest are all red. I can't find anything anywhere that explains what this means. I clicked on the "shared files" folder, then on the button to configure, in the shared folders section I clicked Add & selected the path to the folders I wanted, but the files in the folders are just listed in red. I think this means they are not shared for some reason but am not sure. I have also tried individually right-clicking on every file & selecting "share" but this isn't working either.

I'm not very good at figuring out new programs at the best of times... could anyone help me with this please? I would appreciate it!! Thanks

Yes red means the files aren't being shared. Press the Refresh button (Refresh will update the shared list) & see if they turn black. If not, then right-click the file & a small options window will appear, select Share file. That option will only show if the file is not being shared (otherwise it will be greyed out.)

BTW ignore files in the incomplete folder. Also, files that have been just downlded might not be immediately shared.

Thank you - but I already tried that.... it isn't working. Absolutely nothing happens when I right-click on a file & click share file. they stay red. Plus.... I'm finding it very frustrating, because I have several hundred files I want to share, it should do it just by me selecting the folder those files are in & sharing that... but it isn't working. I've read the help pages & clicked what its told me to click on those, but it just doesn't work.

OK let's start again. Go to LW's menu Tools>Options>Sharing & select the folder & press remove. Press apply. Then try re-adding it. As said, you may need to press the Refresh button if they don't automatically turn to black. Ways of adding shared folders: See How to Share Folders (click on link) & also Advanced Share options

If all this fails, then my thought would be to delete your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Fixes for Limewire But make a note of all your settings before doing this.

(BTW I'm not sure but if you use the right-click option to share a particular file, you "might" need to use the Refresh button to update the change.)
