Deleted Files

I accidently deleted a file when i was clearing out my library, is there a way to recover it?

If you use Windows XP then see System restore for deleted files, else you'll need a file recovery utility such as Norton or you can get a free one here: PC Inspector File Recovery (click on link)

restoring deleted files

how do I use PC Inspector File Recovery to restore deleted songs from Limewire?

Follow the link in the thread above, download the application and follow the instructions.

thankyou for your reply but I can't find the instructions. I can find and restore old pics that I have previously deleted but can not find the limewire music. Where do I look?

Sorry ... I have never used PC Inspector File Recovery, but from what I have read here I am aware it is not necessarily 100% sure to work! However, if you found your pics, I feel the music files must be there somewhere! If you give details of your OS it will help someone who has some experience to hopefully give you more advice.

2 & a half weeks after you lost the files, you've left it a bit late if I may say. Whenever a file is deleted from your computer, there's a skeleton left over; ie: the system & hdd retains information about that file. However, if you continue writing onto the hdd by saving new files, then chances are it might write over that area where the previous files were stored. The longer you leave it, the harder it is to recover files that have been deleted. If you accidentally delete a file, then you should immediately stop doing anything that might write over the portion of the hard disk drive where the files were. I also haven't used PC Recovery but have used Norton Unerase. With norton, you can not only check for all types of files that are recoverable, but also check for specific file types. I think PC Recovery can do the same thing but you'll need to read the manual about how to do that.

It has only been 2 days but I must have downloaded about 100 songs after I did it! I have managed to find the songs that I haven't deleted on PC Inspector recovery so I know it works, but I think I'll have to kiss the deleted files goodbye. We live and learn!! Thanks for all the help.
