Default Limewire be cwazy!

I know that was the most overly n00bish title that probably anyone has ever seen, but anyhows...

I'm well aware of this thread here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=39612 with regards to limewire constantly popping up, but I believe that that problem and the one I've been having are somewhat different.

My limewire doesn't pop up every few seconds, instead, it pops up after I've closed it. I suspect this is due to the settings that I have set up.

I'd go through them and try to figure this out myself further, but I haven't had -any- luck so far. I've only had Limewire since this morning actually, which I find overly funny.

Currently, I'm downloading the anti-virus software that is spoken of within the thread I mentioned above. If it picks up anything, I'll come back and post more about the issue.

Tekno.

EDIT: The problem is the -exact- same one as described in the thread I posted above, I'm just not able to rectify the issue the same way that it states to.

check your options for the System Tray--perhaps it is set to allow transfers to finish before closing

Thanks for replying, unfortunately its a problem which can be found here at the following link http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...=&pagenumber=1

Its virus related too. I find it rather outraging that the LW group allow their installation file to be downloaded (from their own site even) with a virus amidst it.

I've created a reply on that thread which is the following so far:

"Funny thing is, even after searching every little spot of my Windows folder, I can't find my Task Manager. Its as if it was deleted entirely from my computer.

I think I'm going to simply reformat and start off fresh again and unfortunately, find another P2P downloader and hope I can steer clear of these problems.

EDIT: My (mostlikely shortterm) fix (I'm overly aware I've not fixed it, just hidden it. Basically lack of a better word I guess) was to go into Run > Msconfig > Startup and thats where I noticed that there where so many things that shouldn't be, but have been starting up when my system starts.

I ticked the ones that I suspected (possibly even things that aren't affected by this problem) off. They were the following:

221
svhostcs32
IMJPMIG
MsMovies
TINTSETP
TINTSETP
qttask
jusched

EDIT: Next problem, the 221 and svhostcs32 are very smartly coded. When I turned off the first ones, they doubled, I did it again, now I have four. After this, I suspect I'll have eight of them in my startup area.

EDIT: After large amount of consideration (popups saying many different problems have arisen and forced shutdowns), I've come to the decision I'ma reformat for sure.

I was wondering, are my downloaded files at all going to be affected by these problems and is there any way that I can install LW without having this happen and or can I eliminate the problem before it eliminates my Task Manager?

Why do LW allow this to come with the installation file?"

There are NO viruses in the official LW installers. If you get your LW from somewhere else . . . . that's a different problem

I know exactly how and when my son loaded this virus on my computer, and I am ashamed to admit it. . . .but just so others don't make the same mistake, he tried to download and install a Pro version of Limewire from the Gnutella network.

I know this because, (due to his incessant pirating) I purchased a keystroke logger. I have now locked him out of my machine.

I seem to have my old faithful back on line now, thanks to you wonderful people! Whoooooo-Hooooooooo!
I can't help you with the windows stuff (I'm on a mac and have zero experience with viruses)

Obviously there is something fishy being sent out along with the -official- installer as I did get the file from their website. Give me a min and I'll grab the link addy of the file and then edit this post.

EDIT: Here is the link to where I downloaded my LW from. http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...oadfree2.shtml

'Tis that not the official?

that's the official site, but the installer isn't infected.

Can you give the exact message that tells you the installer is the culprit? I'll try and get a windows expert to take a look at your posts.

I haven't received any message stating that the installer was the problem, but using logic after what I'm about to say, its the most logical thing that contains the virus.

I haven't actually downloaded anything with this program yet, never had the chance to before it started doing this.

What I was doing at the time was working on a graphics piece for my deviantart account so when it finished installing, it had 'run' the program and so it opened.

I didn't need it at the time and so thus I closed it, about a minute later it was back. Its been doing this continuously for the since yesterday morning.

Therefore, if I haven't downloaded anything after initially installing the program, it makes the most suited choice of what contains the virus the installer itself.

I don't know how the virus got onto your computer, but it wasn't through the official installer. Those installers are VERY carefully checked for security.

That virus has obviously taken control of your LW, and I wish you well in getting rid of it. Doesn't look like any of the Windows experts are around right now, but sounds like you've found the links needed to revove it.
