Minimize search panel

I upgraded to 4.9.37 and lost the ability to minimize the search panel after a search has been initiated. There used to be an "X" to close the panel or you used to be able to use your mouse and slide the search panel to the left to increase the viewing area of the search results in the previouys version. Am I missing something is has that feature been elimenated????
