HELP PLEASE: LW doesn't run. "had to shut down" msg

Every time i have tried to use LW in the last 3 weeks i get a message saying limewire had a problem and needed to shut down as soon as the program executes. I don't even see anything other than the hourglass cursor to know its working when i click the icon. I have reinstalled numerous time. I'm running XP home SP2.

I think you have the same problem I do. I get the "Limewire has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience . . ." message, with the option to "Send a Report" to Microsoft. As a result, my Limewire doesn't start up at all. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling a number of times. I upgraded the version of Java on my computer in case that was it. I checked my firewall settings in case that was the problem. I really have no idea what else to do.

Help? :(

Do both steps 1 & 2 here: Fixes for Limewire which means deleting the LW preferences folder (sample image at bottom of linked page), & reinstalling Java but using the "Offline" java installer instead of the online installer. See how that goes. ;)

You are a genius, thank you! I've been struggling with this for weeks. I can't believe how simple it was!

Which fixed it, was it the java, LW preferences or both? Or haven't you tried it yet? This seems to be the way to fix it!

Well I had already installed Java using the offline installer. That was something I tried last week. All I needed to do was delete the preferences folder. I never even knew it existed :-Þ

Thankyou for letting us know. Yes both steps are generally required from what I've seen.

GAH! I got it to work earlier, but now it's happening again. I think it hates me.

Where did you get your version of LimeWire from and what version of LimeWire is it. The link below is the official site if you get it from anywhere else it could be buggy. You will have to redo the fix but something is changing your settings you should do a virus scan and a spy ware scan.

Sounds like there may be a bug I had a problem when I installed 4.10.0 but thought it was caused from a unstable windows due to overclocking.
