Please Help! I Can't start Limewire

I had Limewire 4.9 and it worked fine. I added a router and it told me that I had to reconfigure the router to get it to work. But before I could do that, I found that I couldn't get Limewire to start when I clicked on it. Then a registry clean-up turned up a problem with a win 32 P2P file or driver that was a problem and deleted it. Now I have downloaded Limewire 10. But I still can't get it to start up from the program or the icon. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO??? Heip!!!!

Can you give us a total desciption of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. ** Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Did you configure your firewall so it allows LW full access (advisable not to have 2 active firewalls b/c they can interfere with each other); Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

Go into your Linksys & make sure UPnP is active. Also make sure it's active for LW, LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>firewalls. See Linksys UPnP setting (click on link) as yours will be similar.

You shouldn't go without any firewalls. Deactive XP's FW & configure the 2nd one; * Configuring Norton Internet Security

Drat! My Lynksys does not have a tab called "administrative." IT has one called "routing" under the advanced tab. Nowhere does the word Upnp appear so that it can be enabled. Looks like it has to be manually configured. I don't know how to do this..what "paths" lead to limewire. I am freaking out because Christmas is tomorrow and I NEED Limewire! Thanks for trying. Do you know what to tell my router to do? Would Linksys know?

It says WRT54G but it does not say what version

Grandpa December 24th, 2005 09:17 AM

Then it is a WRT54G the link below is the start page for WRT54G.

I know you are probably tired of this. I clicked on the WRT54G link and that is not the right one. It says click on the security tab and then filters, etc. My router info windows don't look like this, nor do they have the infor I need. It must be one of ther versions, 1,2 or 5. When I pull up the page you sent listing the routers, and click on one of the versions of WRT54G, I can't get it to pull up. How do I get there myself so I can check them all out to see which one is mine?

Thanks!

Gerry

Hello! Well I got the router thing done! I customized it for Limew1 got the TCP port and UDP Port set to 6346 and enabled! Sure I got it right!!! But STILL when I click on the icon or program for Limewire 4.10 it will not pullup on the computer!! Any other ideas? Thanks!

Grandpa December 25th, 2005 08:22 AM

Well now you have the router configured try following the instructions below and see if that helps do the .limewire fix first in the first link. If that doesn't work continue with the instructions.

You will need to install Java and LimeWire manually First go to the first link. You can find Links to java in there Download Java to your hard drive by putting a mark in the save to disc box. Save it to my documents or wherever you save downloads from the internet. Do the same with LimeWire the second link will take you there.

Now with that done click on start then control panel add/remove programs and see if Java is listed on the list if it is uninstall it. Do the same with LimeWire if the un installers were not loaded you may have to manually delete the files. But in most cases this is not necessary.

Now click on the Java installer you saved to your hard drive and follow the instructions after you have completed that do the same with LimeWire.

Please post back and let us know if it worked. If it did not I will give further instructions on manually deleting Java and LimeWire.
