Limewire freeze out.

Ok i used to be able to run Limewire fine on my old computer, but ever since i have got my new computer i have been expieriencing big problems.

When i load up Limwire, immediately my computer locks up and everything stops.

It then seems that my computer is still running but at about one thousand times its actual speed. I eventually manage to bring up my task manager and get my mouse over the the limewire process and end it, which is very hard seeing as the mouse movement is going at about 0.5 frames per second.

Once i end the limewire process everything returns to normal.

I have the latest version of limewire, and all new drivers.

I think it may be a problem with java because occasionaly this happens with other programs.

The problem is not my system simply running out of CPU because it has 1 gig of ram and amd athalon 3500 running on it.

Any replies or solutions would be really appreciated,

Thanks

See if either steps #1 or 2 help here Fixes for Limewire (if you already have Java 1.5, reinstall it using the "Offline" installer. If that doesn't fix it, uninstall Java 1.5 & try 1.4.2 instead.)

Another thing to try, LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>iTunes>Sharing & disable iTunes sharing abilities. It might also be worth checking Disable Ultrapeer Capabilities under the Speed option.

thanks for the speedy reply :)

ok ill try the 2 steps and re-installing java, but i cannot do the rest of what you said.

This is because as soon as i start limewire, and the process begins the computer locks up and i can do nothing.

In the task manager it says the CPU usage is 100%, so something is clearly wrong.

Thanks

ok a new problem now.

I did the first two steps of the guide, and now when i load up LW, everything freezes for about 30 seconds.

Then the limewire loader disappears and nothing else happens...

Uninstall Java 1.5 then (you still have the installer so can reinstall it later if required.) Then try installing Java 1.4.2 It may be your system doesn't like Java 1.5 ... not the 1st person for that to happen to.

hehe dont worry all is sorted.

It turns out i had to adjust video settings and make sure it was application controlled.

Thanks for the help anyway.

I tried following the link for JRE 1.4.2.10 but it comes up as unavailable when you try an offline installation. Is it just my computer or did Sun shut it down?
