Default Downloading Format for DVD's

I'm new to this. I've attempted to download two DVD movies. The movies download OK, and play on my computer using MS Media Player.

My DVD copy program, Cyberlink Power Copy, does not recognize the format. How do I download the movie in a VTS files?

Not many people share vts files!!! How can you know if you have them all & there's also info files that are necessary for these files to be understood. Thus, most people convert dvd's to other formats such as avi or mpeg, etc. & their sizes are around the CD size. So I would suggest aiming for avi or mpeg. See Movie download issues

BTW the newest Nero & Roxio burner programs can convert these for you.

Try Divx to DVD its free and works well
If you have some cash try WinAVIVideoConverter or DVD Santa

You might make need to make sure you have relevant codec on your computer, depending on what format you are converting from.

I have been using ArcSoft ShowBiz, I dont know where I got it from, it may have been standard issue with the computer. It is really easy to get the hang of and lets you create menus and backgrounds and set chapters. It converts the files from Avi to DVD format automatically. I figured out how to use it in a couple of hours and the results look really professional.

Might I suggest purchasing a DVD player that recognises other formats, for 70 pound I just purchased a player from argos that plays dvd, mpeg4, divx and xvid, it can read DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD RW,CD R, CD RW.

The advantage for me is being able to put several movies onto one DVD disk.

Do you really want to download VTS??, at approx 1gbyte each I know I dont, for a 2 hour movie it could work out to about 4.5gbyte, where as the same in mpeg4 or divx would be around 700mbyte, a vast saving in download time and storage space.

I recently purchased a player that can play the same as RunningBare. It can also play others like mp4, oko, hd cd, wma (his prolly can also.) I tried it out the other day using just a data dvd with mpeg4 files on it. ie: no need for conversion, it plays them as they are. It's great. And if you downld a movie at 700 MB, that's around 6 movies on one disk (4.7 GB disk.) It saves not only the hassle of conversion to typical mpeg2 dvd video format, but it means no loss of quality by re-converting it. Simply play the files as they are. Dare i say it, I paid $109 AUD which is about 46 British Pound. I put music video clips on there & that's a lot of music clips. lol
These ones showed up in a menu similar to an mp3 dvd. But you can simply skip between them, etc. So it plays them as though they're cd tracks or chapters on a movie dvd.
