in the incoming searches window, does it show all users that search for a file in your shared files even if there's no match? or does it only show users that search your shared files and have a match?

If you're running in "leaf" mode, & the majority of people do, then incoming searches do in some way relate to your shared files; ie: one of your shared files has shown up in their search results. You can check which files get hits by going to the Library window, clicking on your shared folder(s), looking at the columns to the far right. Look at the Hits column. These are files that have shown up in other people's searches. Those in the upload column are ones that have been uploaded either partially or fully or attempted.

There are no usernames for LW users. Not unless another gnutella client program allows this, but AFAIK all you're seeing is the search terms in the monitor window's incoming window.

i was told by somebody else that the lines coming up in the show incoming searches on the monitor tab are what people actually type in and search for, not the users who get a match to one of your shared files. and that there is no usernames at all even for people who have bought pro.

so the words coming up in the show incoming searches box are what people have searched for and have got a match to one of my shared files?

when i enable show incoming searches, i get a message saying:
"Your client is a leaf node shielded by an Ultrapeer. Hence you will see few or no searches in the monitor window."
but the searches stream down the box, so that works anyway.

so what exactly is 'leaf' mode? does that have something to do with not being able to get a direct connection? i can't because of that 'napt' stuff in my adsl modem/router apparently.

That's right, the incoming are only searches that have linked onto one of your shared files for some reason. It might not be totally what they were looking for but it's shown up in the other person's search results.

There's ultrapeers & leafs. Ultrapeers will see all traffic which includes their own & some that are leafs connected via them. Whereas leafs only see what traffic is directed specifically at them. ie: UP's help shield leafs from unnecessary traffic.

Direct Connect is not an easy tool to use. Both you & the other person must have their firewalls properly configured, have free upload & downld slots & bandwidth. I suspect those with chat enabled might also be easier to DC to.

it's not just the direct connect on limewire, i can't get a primary connection on winmx either, and there's other programs and a few websites that won't let me do some things because of the NAPT in my 4 port broadband modem/router. it apparently gives 4 computers connected to it 1 external ip address and yeah, it's all explained on that webpage anyway i think.

i tried disabling napt inside my modem, but when i do that the internet connection just freezes. it won't do anything but doesn't say that there's no connection or whatever.

i wonder if single port broadband modem users have this same problem?
