I've been using PRO on XP for a couple of months, but now, every time I try to start up LimeWire, I get the "Loading" screen, going through things to do with HTML, etc, and then finally stopping on "Loading User Interface" with the progress bar bouncing back and forth ad aeternam, without the app ever loading in the end, no matter how long I wait.

Nothing apart from the progress bar moves, but the LimeWire.exe loading screen is using about 70% of my 2.2Ghz CPU, and 38MB of memory, and the only way I can quit that screen is through Ctrl+Alt+Del, "End Process"...

I've tried un- and reinstalling LimeWire, Java and various versions thereof, and also followed various other tips I'd read on threads of this and other forums detailing similar problems, all with no success.


All this fiddling has basically made me furious, and I've got rid of LimeWire and Java, and unless someone could provide me with a super-tip that will magically fix everything, which I unfortunately doubt, I don't think I'll reinstall either (the thought of wasting time on reinstallation makes me feel queasy (and FURIOUS), and I hadn't encountered a Java applet (let alone a useful one ) while surfing in months, so...)

I did like using LimeWire, but since I can't get it to run, and have lost the will to try, could you recommend a second favourite piece of software, which I could use as a replacement? I'd like to try something other LimeWire users recommend first, instead of blindly trying random progs.
