Can't 'click' on anything...please help! Hey there everyone! I searched through a few pages of threads, but didn't find anything related to this particular problem. A while back we had a problem that when Limewire loaded, it would ask if we wanted to upgrade...when we clicked on either option, 'upgrade now' or 'upgrade later'. nothing would happen. The buttons became highlighted when we hovered the cursor over them, but it's as if they were dead links. We couldn't get the window to close, nor could we click on anything else, so we would have to close Limwire through the task manager. After about a month or so, Limewire decided to start working again...although we had made no apparent changes. Anyway, three days ago, it started doing it again. It gave us the upgrade window again, at which point we weren't able to choose either option. It's as if it were frozen, although the links still appeared active as they would light up when hovered over, as before. My mom decided to upgrade to LimewirePRO through the website. We did so...but are still having the same problem. This time, it was giving us a "Tip of the Day" window, which we weren't able to close at first. Then, I opened up task manager, x'ed it back out (the TM window), and was able to close the tip of the day, and to search for a song. However, when the list of downloads came up, I was not able to click on any of the songs...nor any otehr button or link within Limewire. So I shut it down through task manager. I saw a thread that suggested deleting the LW preference folder for other issues, so I tried that. Now when I open Limewire, it asks for a language preference, but again, I am not able to click on anything, and have to shut the window out through task manager. Can anyone help please? We've tried emailing Limewire support twice, but so far they haven't been of much assistance. :-\ |
Make sure you have at least Java 1.5, in fact it might even be a good idea to get the Java 1.6 beta found here but choose the JRE "Offline" version which is a 15.72 MB downld. Direct download link is here. Before you install it, open your Add/Remove Prorams Control panel & remove all versions of Java listed. Then install the Java 1.6 JRE. I hope you have plenty of ram! ;) |
Hey LOTR... I already had Java 1.5 on my machine, but I uninstalled it anyway, and installed the JRE 1.6 Offline version as you said. I restarted the computer, although I wasn't prompted to do so, and then tried opening limewire. It brought up the language preference box, and when I tried clicking 'next', nothing happened, as before. :-\ |
Can you give us a total description of your set up: 1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) 2. What firewalls you have? 3. How much ram? 4. Hard Disk space available? 5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.) 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? 7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)? 8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. 9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)? 10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. |

I'm not sure then. I wonder if there's a software clash somewhere. I'll ask around to see if there's other opinions. ;) Have you tried reinstalling LW using the "Offline" installer? How long has this problem been happening & when did it start? Was there a possibility of software updates or system updates that affected it? Perhaps a software clash? A new softw or driver you installed? |
Thanks, I appreciate your help. :-) |
Sorry late edit in my previous post, not sure if you saw my later questions above? Looking for a bit of history to your problem & when it started. And possible causes. What brand & model of graphic card to you run? |
This might seem like the strangest of suggestions, but I just saw this post http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=54502 & the option of changing compatibility mode to NT worked for them. I'm curious whether this has any effect for you. |
I had that box unchecked, but I checked it and tried Windows NT compatability, and it didn't work. I was excited, because it sounded crazy enough to work. lol. Anyway, I tried Windows 2000 as well, and that didn't work. Limewire wouldn't even open when I changed the compatibility to Windows ME and Windows 95. |
This has happened to me to, please find me a cure!!!! |
Mine is REAL messed up! I am having the same problem listed as above, but I cannot even click on the Add/Remove part of the control panel without my computer freezing and having to restart. Whenever I click on the file that all of my downloads went to, or anything else Limewire related, I get an "execution prevention" error and windows tries to send a report. I can't get to any of the files that I downloaded over the past 8 months!! Any new suggestions? |
Could you guys answer The lords question of what graphics card you are using. |
Grandpa, forgive me for being an idiot, but tell me where to find it and I will give you your answer!! This problem has really shutdown alot of my access to my own system! |
1 Attachment(s) Go to Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Display Adapter It will not tell you the brand name but it will tell you the platform and chip set as you can see mine is Nvidia GeForce 6200 |
Radeon X300 Series is what it said. I figured out a quick fix for this problem, you guys tell me what you think. I pretty much just did a system restore to the restore point of yesterday morning. Since I didn't start having this problem until tonight, I thought I would try it. Sure enough, it worked. I can now get to all 900 files that I downloaded in the last 8 months, and am currently in the process of downloading the new version of Limewire. I will keep you posted... apparently some system setting gets changed by something, causing the problem. It's worked so far, but Grandpa, let me know if you have any other ideas...... |
Sounds Like Java somehow got corrupted |
Ok, that fix turned out to be only temporary. I tried to use limewire today and the same thing happens. my old file that I used to download music to freezes everything when I try to click on it, I can't click on add/ remove programs with anything at all open, and now when I try to do the whole system restore thing, it doesn't let me restore to an earlier date. any suggestions? |
mattieb Have you tried un installing all versions of Java from your computer. then re installing Java. |
Sorry to jump in...but I've un-installed both Java and Limewire, and re-installed both, and am still having the problem. :-\ |
1 Attachment(s) monkeysontoast What graphics card are you using and what are the A A settings try setting them to application controlled. |
Radeon 7000 Series Where can I find the AA settings? |
1 Attachment(s) I am not sure about Radeon try right clicking on your screen and see if Radeon is listed. Then look for performance and quality settings or something like that. |
Grandpa, I cannot even uninstall Java because when I click on the add/remove programs part of the control panel, it gives me some "run as dll" stop execution error and freezes my whole system to the point that i have to reboot. |
OK You have a corrupted install of java. Go to Start/My Computer/Local Disk C:/Program Files/Java and delete the java file. Then try to re install Java |
Grandpa, just tried that and it gives me a "cannot delete justched.exe. Access is denied" error. I don't have anything else running. I agree with you that Java is causing the error, but I can't find a way to delete it! Any ideas? |
Left click problems Ok, I've tried all the suggestions to see if any would work. I've unistalled everything, removed directories, restarted, installed LW and Java. Even redid the whole process and tried it with the Beta version of Java. For some reason, it still will not let me left click on anything. What ever the mouse pointer hovers over is highlited, but I can't left click on it to do anything. System is a P4 HT 3.0 GHZ, 2 gigs of Ram, ATI AIW Pro 128, 160 gig HD, 200 Gig HD, MadDog burner, Abit IS-7 MB. Any ideas? |
mattieb jusched.exe is a Java update tool. Open task manager by pressing and holding down Ctrl+Alt then press Delete. Then click on the processes tab find jusched.exe highlight it the click on end task. A warning will pop up don't worry go ahead and end task then try uninstalling Java. |
Still a problem I've tried that a couple of times. It still hasn't worked. Any other ideas? |
I sent a couple of PM to other members maybe they will know how to get past this point. |
Me too! I have reinstalled many times....I thought I was the only one with that problem! |
I need it to work by tomorrow at least or I'm in big trouble! |
Nope Apparently not, I've seen atleast one other topic related to same problem. It's got to be a Java issue. It comes up, and tip screen is set to come up, I can right click on the top of it and close that, but anything else it just highlites the buttons when the mouse pointer is over it, can't right or left click on anything on the main program. Always end up having to close the program thru the task manager. Even let it set for 30 minutes once as someone had suggested that. Still didn't work. And I paid for this one. lol Hope someone comes up with a fix. |
A Java problem? Hmm... Why me?!? |
At a guess I'm only guessing at that. Java is a pretty much embedded in quite a few programs that we use. So it may be a software conflict with another program that we have installed or it could go even deeper than that and be a problem with the software that came with a component that was installed. Hell, it may even be a conflict with something in Windows. lol Not like anyone hasn't seen that problem before. lol:rolleyes: |
CheyenneTrk Below is what UKbobboy01 sugested you do. After reading through the thread it seems to me that the culprit, which starts during windows start-up, is juschek.exe. I suggest that mattieb, and anyone else that has this problem, to start up their PC in safe mode and delete the java directory (and especially juschek.exe) then restart their PC and then use Add/Remove to get rid of the remaining java installation. Finally, download the java installation file (which is nearly 60Mb) to a new, empty directory/folder and then run the new java installation from there. Do not, under any circumstances, load java from the internet/web site, i.e. Online installation, always choose the "Offline Installation". Hope this helps. UK Bob |
Shall try... |
??? Decided to check one more time to see if it would work and today for some reason, it works just fine. Weird. |
