My Limewire Pro shuts itself down !

I have had no trouble untill recently when LW starts up works fine for 10 min then shuts itself down. I have removed and reinstalled but the same thing is happening ,Has anyone else come accross this?

Yup same story

Ya my limewire pro does the same thing, it also sometimes begins to start up, then it just closes. I've tried limewire basic, with the same results. I think its a Java issue. But no one can find out anything.

Try LOTR's advice here
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...limewire+shuts

If nothing works, both post back with your details

OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

Had LW for 4 months pro but had baisic before.

1. If you're using Panda Firewall, did you ensure Windows XP firewall is disabled? 2 firewalls will conflict with each other. Even MS recommends not having 2 firewalls as do most FW companies.

2. Check these SP2 patches which increase simultaneous connections: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=33712

3. So you tried (a) removing Java & reinstalling & (b) deleting your LW prefs folder? I would highly recommend deleting your LW prefs folder. I would recommend both (a) & (b)!

4. Try changing LW's compatibility mode to either windows 2000 or NT; see point #5 here Fixes for Limewire

Many thanks.
Did every thing on your list and it now functions. Left it running for the last 4 hours and has not shut down on me. Once again many thanks for your help. Still working on increasing download speed

suga_69, did you try changing compatibility (in LOTR's link "fixes for LW" in my first link)?

Did you try installing the older Java 1.4.2?
Are you running any antispyware?

(sorry for the repeat questions but sometimes people get lost amongst the fixes & forget to try one or two)

suga_69 June 1st, 2006 02:25 PM

I did try changing the compatibility, I'm running AVG Free edition, I don't think i've tried the 1.4.2 version of Java. I'll try to find that download. Any other suggestions if that don't work?

birdy June 1st, 2006 03:31 PM

There's a link for downloading 1.4.2 within the Fixes for LW in post #5. See how that goes.
